Role Description
Advanced Innovative Engineering are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Engine Test Technician with specialised experience in engine testing to join our team in Lichfield. You are expected to be part of a multi-discipline engineering team and contribute at all times.
Reporting to the Head of Engineering, you will support AIE in the testing of new innovations for the Wankel Rotary Engine power units supplied to Customers within the aerospace, transport and power generation markets. The successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring the performance, reliability and safety of our aerospace engine systems through rigorous testing.
The Engine Test Technician will be expected to perform the following tasks:
Test Technician Activities
* Set up and operate dynamometers to test rotary engines, including running in tests, ECU mapping and calibration tests etc.
* Conduct diagnostic tests to identify issues and ensure engines meet performance specifications.
* Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to engine testing.
* Record and analyse test data, preparing detailed reports on findings.
* Assemble prototpye and engineering test units.
* Assist in the development of new testing methodologies and protocols.
* Work to aerospace industry standards & specifications as well as aircraft specific requirements.
* Manage and maintain engineering test equipment, instrumentation and facilities.
* Technical support to production department, supporting production investigations as well as supporting the specification, commissioning and troubleshooting of production test equipment.
* Work in a high quality, high safety environment.
Experience and Qualification Summary
Minimum experience of 5 years in a similar test role.
HND, degree level in Aerospace/Mecahnical Engineering or equivalent relevant experience.
Understanding of gasoline/diesel engines and sub-systems in a dynamic environment.
Experience of Froude Eddy Current Dynamometers (AG-30 & AG-150) based engine testing, instrumentation and test facilities.
Proven experience in engine testing.
Practical experience of building engine and anciliary systems.
Practical experience of ECU mapping/calibration.
Engine electrical knowledge (sensory wiring and data comms).
Excellent analytical and problem solving skills.
Practical experience with test instrumentation and data acquisition systems.
Good R&D, aerospace and powertrain background.

Whilst you may have to work alone, you should also be able to communicate with and participate in small group environments. Attention to detail is essential whilst planning and keeping sight of the bigger picture. You must be good at problem-solving with an ability to work to fixed deadlines.
Hours and Environment
Thirty-eight hours a week, Monday to Thursday 8.30 am to 5.30 pm (30-minute lunch) Friday 8.30 am to 12.30 pm.
21 days plus statutory bank holidays.
