We are currently seeking Mechanical Design Engineers for our client at Aldermaston. They are seeking candidates with Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) experience. Candidates must have a background in HVAC design and maintenance within highly regulated environments. This will be 3-4 days on-site per week and the rest from home. End date: 6-12 months Hours per week: AWE 9-day working pattern: 5 day week: Mon 8.25, Tues 8.25, Wed 8.25, Thur 8.25, Fri 8 4 day week: Mon 8.25, Tues 8.25, Wed 8.25, Thur 8.25, Fri 0 Charge Rate per hour: £60 There are 2 different AWE programmes for which candidates will be evaluated. Design Engineer & Mechanical Design Engineer. The Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for overseeing and supporting the safe decommissioning of facilities, systems, assets, and processes on nuclear sites. This role involves ensuring the reliability, efficiency, and safety of all mechanical systems, adhering to regulatory standards, and contributing to the smooth decommissioning of nuclear facilities. Key Responsibilities: - Design and Development: Create detailed designs and specifications for mechanical systems using CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks) specifically for nuclear applications. - Prototyping: Develop and test prototypes to validate designs, ensuring compliance with nuclear safety standards. - Research: Conduct technical research to inform design and engineering methods, focusing on nuclear-specific requirements. - Project Management: Manage project timelines, resources, and budgets, ensuring adherence to nuclear industry regulations. - Collaboration: Liaise with clients, designers, engineers, and manufacturers to ensure coherence and quality, particularly in the context of nuclear safety. - Documentation: Prepare technical reports, design specifications documents, and operational manuals, ensuring compliance with nuclear regulatory standards. - Testing: Perform computer simulations and experiments to virtually test and refine designs, focusing on nuclear-specific scenarios. - Continuous Improvement: Stay abreast of advancements in technology, design trends, and engineering best practices within the nuclear industry. Requirements: - Education: Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related field. - Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in mechanical design engineering, preferably within the nuclear industry. - Skills: Proficiency with CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks), strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, exceptional time management and organizational skills, excellent verbal and written communication abilities. - Certifications: PE certification is advantageous familiarity with nuclear industry standards and regulations is essential. - Attributes: Attentive to detail, critically minded, and able to find creative solutions to technical problems. Job Purpose: Provide designs for the Facility Design Authority (FDA) such that utilities, infrastructure, engineering processes, equipment and facilities are compliant with legislation, standards and requirements associated with engineering design throughout the facility lifecycle. Key Accountabilities: - Maintain & promote high personal standards in environment, safety, health, security & quality and be a great team player. - Maintain a comprehensive understanding of relevant legislative documentation / standards associated with design engineering. - Application of knowledge to confirm designs are prepared which comply with relevant legislation, standards and requirements. - Additional accountabilities for this job profile may be defined and appointed through the Chief Engineer Management Arrangements, with appointees listed within the Company Design Authorities and Technical Authorities, as held in the company management system. Key Responsibilities: - Ensure compliance with Company Assurance Environment, Safety, Health and Quality (ESH&Q) and statutory requirements. - Ensure the design intent is maintained throughout the lifecycle. - Ensure application of standards is proportionate and that engineering best practice is adopted. - Elevate areas of concern to the relevant Principal Engineer. - Liaise with other discipline areas to ensure overall design intent is maintained. - The Company may require you to fulfil any other reasonable duties aligned to your position from time to time in line with business needs. Essential: ONC/OND or equivalent in relevant engineering discipline. Desirable: HNC/HND in relevant engineering discipline. Skills: Working knowledge of legislation and standards applicable to engineering design Experience: Experience of working in the Nuclear/High Hazard Industry
