Here at Serco, we’re looking for a Mechanical Craftsperson to fulfil a newly created water hygiene role in our Estates department at the Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital. This role offers a unique opportunity to work in a diverse engineering environment providing a wide scope for development of skills and knowledge as well as making a positive difference in supporting the NHS and community we support.
Reporting into the Mechanical Supervisor the Mechanical Craftsperson will be part of the engineering team providing planned preventative and reactive maintenance services across the Norfolk & Norwich Hospital site as part of Serco’s Hard FM estates service to the NHS.
The post holder will ensure that the hospitals’ water management plan and schedule are satisfied robustly, safely, and reliably. They will carry out maintenance and repairs on a large variety of plant and equipment to include but not limited to:
1. Medium Temperature Hot Water systems
2. Hot and cold-water systems including cold water service tanks, calorifiers, thermostatic mixing valves etc.
3. Hydrotherapy pool
4. Decontamination equipment
5. Equipment repairs
6. Systems balancing and testing etc.
What you’ll need to do the role:
7. Completed a recognised appropriate Engineering Apprenticeship or other relevant structured Training Program, appropriate City & Guilds and/or BTEC certification (minimum NVQ Level 3).
8. Sound knowledge and understanding of Mechanical Building Services.
9. Proven experience of working in a similar environment.
10. A background in water hygiene/sampling
11. A good understanding of L8 and HTM -
12. Water awareness training.
13. Understanding of PPM schedule plans for routine water sampling.
14. Tank cleaning and disinfection training.
15. Ability to demonstrate a professional approach with strong awareness to health and safety.
16. BG steam boiler water treatment training would be desirable.
17. Pool plant operator or relevant hydrotherapy pool training would be desirable.
18. Effective communication and customer service skills.
19. Ability to work well in high pressure situations.
20. Able to demonstrate good knowledge of water hygiene and associated risks in an NHS environment.
