Overview
The department of anaesthetics works across the Trust, with all Consultants based at a site for on-call. The successful candidate will be willing and able to work sessions in both hospitals to maintain a full range of anaesthetic skills and is expected to work at West Cumberland Hospital one day per fortnight.
The case mix and anaesthetic on-calls differ between sites and are described separately.
Main duties
The Anaesthetic department provides a service for elective and emergency surgery, intensive and high dependency care, maternity, acute and chronic pain, pre-assessment and resuscitation. The department operates a flexible rota; areas of clinical interest in terms of theatre sessions can be agreed and fixed within job planning. Fixed days of working may be discussed with the clinical director through the Trust's Flexible working policy.
Theatres
The Anaesthetic department at CIC provides anaesthetic services for elective surgery in 6 inpatient theatres and 3 day surgery theatres, plus a separate NCEPOD theatre and obstetric theatre. Post-Covid, day case theatres have been widened with flexibility for in-patients. For emergencies, the department provides 24/7 anaesthetic cover for operating theatres and obstetrics, with occasional support for ICU inter-hospital transfers.
The Clinical Director for Anaesthetics is Dr Geetanjali Verma.
