EPUT is looking to appoint an enthusiastic and highly dedicated Consultant Psychiatrist to join and lead the Chelmer Ward based at the Derwent Centre Mental Health Unit.
The Chelmer Ward is an acute inpatient female ward with 16 beds, caring for patients aged 18‑65 with a range of mental health presentations, including psychoses, affective disorders, personality disorders and other conditions. Patients are typically admitted via the Home First team unless they are detained under the Mental Health Act, in which case admission is directly onto the treatment ward. The multidisciplinary team includes a clinical psychologist, occupational therapists, a dietician, nurses, an activity coordinator and healthcare assistants, and works closely with the home treatment team, liaison psychiatry and a neighbouring male inpatient ward to ensure continuity of care after discharge.
Main Duties
The post holder will have overall responsibility for the clinical care of patients admitted to the ward and will work closely with the multidisciplinary team and the ward manager to ensure the provision of an effective, high‑quality service. The role supports continuing professional development, encourages educational and research interests, and is supported by links with the medical school at ARU.
Qualifications
Applicants must have full GMC registration, be listed on the Specialist Register and hold an appropriate CCT or equivalent, or be within six months of obtaining a CCT on the date of the application. The post is suitable for newly qualified consultants and offers opportunities for career development and research.
