Finance Assistant – Local Authority

Working hours: Mon – Fri, 37 hours per week (part time hours available)
Pay rate: £16.11 per hour
About the Role:
We’re looking for a proactive and detail-oriented Finance Assistant to join our team. Reporting to the Senior Accountant, you will play a key role in supporting the Accounting Technicians to deliver high-quality financial management and accountancy services. This role serves a wide range of stakeholders including council members, strategic directors, officers, auditors, government departments, and other external partners.
Key responsibilities include raising purchase orders and invoices, reconciling expenditure and income accounts, and contributing to the council’s revenue and capital budgeting and forecasting processes by providing accurate and timely financial and administrative support.

Build strong working relationships and deliver a first-class service.
Communicate confidently with staff at all levels, including senior management.
Demonstrate experience in meeting tight deadlines and managing your workload effectively.
Have a basic understanding of Local Government Finance.
Be proficient in spreadsheets (e.g., Excel), Microsoft Word, Outlook, and ideally financial systems such as Oracle Fusion.
Show strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise tasks to meet critical deadlines
