About the Job
The IB’s Digital Assessment initiative is a strategically significant, multiyear transformation to introduce a secure, innovative, and student-centred digital assessment service across the Diploma Programme (DP) and Career related Programme (CP), replacing existing paper-based examinations. The initiative is critical to sustaining assessment integrity, enhancing learner and school experience through digital experiences, and ensuring IB assessment remains credible and scalable in a rapidly evolving global education landscape. Due to its impact on learners, schools, assessment integrity, and organisational reputation, the initiative operates within a highly scrutinised, and high stakes governance environment. ‑year transformation to introduce a secure, innovative, and student‑related Programme (CP), replacing existing paper‑stakes governance environment.
Reporting to the Chief Assessment & Operations Officer, the role is part of the Assessment & Operations leadership team. The Digital Assessment Initiative Director provides senior leadership for the successful delivery of this enterprise-wide digital assessment initiative, ensuring that strategic intent is translated into sustainable, high-quality outcomes, with full alignment across the organization. The role jointly reports to the co-sponsors of the project – namely Chief Assessment & Operations Officer and the Digital and Data Office Chief Officer.
The role requires a senior leader with expertise in large scale business transformations within the education sector involving technology, capable of combining industry expertise with strategic vision and disciplined execution. The Director operates with a high degree of autonomy, judgement, and accountability, balancing innovation with reliability, fairness, and assessment validity.
The Digital Assessment Initiative Director is the main person accountable for ensuring the Digital Assessment Initiative achieves its business outcomes. They are the lead member of a Core Leadership Team for the initiative that also includes a Product Lead and Strategy Delivery Manager. The overall initiative team comprises 63 colleagues.
The role leads the programme leadership team, including workstream leads, technology product lead, project and programme management, human resources and finance support and is accountable for setting performance measures, delivery expectations, and success criteria to ensure outcomes are achieved in line with IB’s values and strategic objectives.
