Are you looking for a new challenge with the opportunity to apply your existing knowledge and skills whilst also developing a new skillset?

Do you want to be at the forefront of a new role in the PCN making a difference to patient care?

If so, an exciting opportunity has arisen for a 9 month temporary contract for GP Assistant to join our PCN. The successful applicants will work alongside the PCN team to support healthcare professionals, patients and carers.

You will be part of an innovative multidisciplinary team working across the Bridgedale PCN to support and assist the GP practices within the PCN.

We are looking for a dynamic and pro‑active GP Assistant on a fixed term 6 to 9 month contract to assist in improving patient outcomes and support the primary care workforce in general practice.

* Riverside Medical Centre
* The Ryan Medical Centre
* New Longton Surgery
* Lostock Hall Medical Centre
* Other associated PCN sites

Main duties of the job

Our PCN is looking for a temporary GP Assistant to join our growing primary care workforce. The successful candidates will work across the patch, within the PCN Practices, Community Teams and across the Multi‑Disciplinary Team (MDT). A GP Assistant will deal with patients and, if appropriate, their carer, before or after the patients consultation with a clinician or other healthcare professional.


Job responsibilities

* Sorting all clinical correspondence and prioritizing for the GP in terms of actions.
* Signposting some post to others such as clinical pharmacist, etc.
* Arranging appointments, referrals, tests and follow‑up appointments of patients.
* Preparing patients prior to going in to see the GP, taking a brief history and basic readings in readiness for the GP appointment.
* Dipping urine, taking blood pressure, ECGs & phlebotomy.
* Explaining treatment procedures to patients.
* Helping the GP liaise with outside agencies e.g., getting an on‑call doctor on the phone to ask advice or arrange admission while the GP can continue with their consultation(s).
* Support with QOF and IIF reviews.
* Support with New Patient Medicals, reviews and Health Checks in care homes.
* Support the Care home team and GP(s) smooth running of clinics by performing routine administration and clinical tasks on behalf of the GP, freeing up their time to focus on the patient.
* Carry out some clinical tasks and reviews in the Care Homes to support the Care Home Clinical team.
* Ensure the principles of openness, transparency and candour are observed and upheld in all working practices.
* Have, or acquire through training provided by the organisation, the appropriate level of safeguarding and knowledge, skills and practice required for the post and be aware of and comply with the organisation's safeguarding protection policies, procedures and information governance.
* Ensure that any infection prevention and control issues are reported to the line manager /infection prevention and control lead.
* Ensure that all activities are monitored and evaluated.
* Attend internal meetings as required.
* Work in accordance with PCN policies, including the equal opportunities policy and practice.
* Attend any training courses and supervision sessions as required.
* Work with due regard to the Health and Safety Policy, ensuring that all practices and procedures are undertaken in accordance with the issued guidelines.
* Keep the MDT and the managers updated with both positive feedback and any verbal or written complaints.
* Be able to recognise personal limitations and refer to more appropriate colleagues when necessary.
* Deliver a high quality, diverse, patient centred service.
* Undertake any other duties as may reasonably be required from time to time.
* Be prepared to work flexibly, including evenings, bank holidays and weekends on a rota basis.


Person Specification


Essential Experience

* Minimum of 1 year experience of working with healthcare professionals and/or previous experience in the NHS or social care or relevant field.
* Experience of working in a multi‑disciplinary setting where influence and negotiation is required.
* Experience of coordinating and liaising with multiple stakeholders or individuals to meet specified outcomes.

Essential Requirements

* Have access to a car and being in possession of a full current driving licence and business insurance.
* Ability to travel across the locality on a regular basis including to visit people in their own home; reasonable adjustments or alternative arrangements will be considered for disabled applicants who cannot drive, provided the core requirements can still be met.


Desirable Requirements

* Flexibility to work outside of core office hours and weekends.


Essential Qualifications

* Educated to GCSE or equivalent.


Desirable Qualifications

* NVQ 3 or equivalent and/or relevant basic/first level professional qualification.
