Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust is the only acute hospital provider in the Mid and South Essex Integrated Care System (ICS), which is a system of health and care partners working together for our local population.

Within Mid and South Essex there are 149 GP practices, operating from over 200 sites, forming 27 Primary Care Networks and one Ambulance Trust. There are also three main community and mental health service providers who work together through a community collaborative.

We collaborate with other valuable partners, including three Healthwatch organisations, nine voluntary and community sector organisations and three top tier local authorities, with seven district, borough and city councils, as well as our local universities.

Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a pharmacist to join the Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust pharmacy team. The position will be based at Basildon site, where you will be part of an innovative team, and be involved in many exciting projects to promote and deliver high quality clinical service to our patients with a focus on haematology.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and ambitious pharmacist with excellent clinical knowledge and organisational skills. You will be working closely with the multidisciplinary teams relating to antimicrobial stewardship, critical care and Infection control located at the three sites in Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust. This will be a great opportunity to develop your clinical leadership role and play an active part in change management projects.

Main duties of the job
* Providing a clinical service to the wards, discharge .
* Attend AMS clinical ward rounds, clinical and multidisciplinary meetings as appropriate
* Regularly record clinical interventions and activities.
* Provide specialist pharmaceutical information and advice to medical, nursing and other staff within the Trust where appropriate.
* Promote the safe, appropriate and economic use of drugs.
* Counsel and advise patients on the appropriate and effective use of medicines.
* Take part in the emergency On-call Pharmacist rota. Working alone as the On call Pharmacist, you will provide: medicines information, advice and supply out of hours, including sourcing of urgently required drugs from external suppliers and other hospitals.
* To support the Trust Medication Safety Officer and Pharmacy Risk and Governance Team with the medicines optimisation and governance agenda.
* Monitor the safe and secure storage of medication both within the pharmacy department and on the wards.
* Implement local and national guidelines where appropriate e.g. NICE.
* Supervise trainee pharmacists, undergraduate students and ward-based technicians.
* Manage staff in order to ensure the effective operation of the Services
* Develop your existing role as an independent prescriber, or working towards this goal

Person specification

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential criteria
* Master's Degree in Pharmacy (or equivalent)
* Registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council
* Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy or equivalent Post-graduate qualification
Desirable criteria
* Membership of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society
* Independent Prescriber
Experience

Essential criteria
* Extensive relevant pharmacy experience including providing a clinical pharmacy service to a variety of specialities including Antimicrobial Stewardship, Critical care
* Line management experience
* Significant relevant post registration experience
Desirable criteria
* Experience in teaching and training of Pharmacy and MDT staff
* Financial awareness regarding the management of drug budgets
