Voltempo is developing rapid DC Hypercharging solutions for a range of commercial vehicle sectors, initially here in the UK, but progressively internationally as the transport sector electrifies. The company holds several international patents, it is engaged in the end-to-end design, supply, site commissioning and servicing of charging solutions, targeting commercial vehicles. The business is currently scaling and is well supported by both its international shareholders and its role under the UK Government eFreight2030 programme, where it is leading a consortium of UK logistics fleet operators to deploy the UK’s first eHGV charging network.
Job Summary:
We are looking for a Civil Connections Engineer with experience in civil and structural engineering, utility interface works, and cable ducting design to support the rollout of EV charging infrastructure. This role will focus on the design, coordination, and delivery of civil works related to EV charge point connections—including electrical duct routes, foundation designs, and coordination with DNOs (Distribution Network Operators) and ICPs (Independent Connection Providers).
Key Responsibilities:
* Design and oversee civil infrastructure works for EV charging sites, including cable ducting/trenching, foundation pads, access roads, and associated structural elements.
* Coordinate with DNOs, IDNOs, and ICPs to facilitate LV and HV electrical connections and duct routes from point of connection (PoC) to charge points.
* Produce or review site layouts, ducting diagrams, and civil drawings (e.g., trench cross-sections, foundation details, and access arrangements).
* Conduct site surveys and feasibility assessments for new EV charger installations.
* Prepare method statements, risk assessments, and construction sequencing plans.
* Monitor on-site construction activities, ensuring compliance with design specifications, HSE legislation, and quality standards.
* Interface with internal teams (electrical, planning, commercial) and external stakeholders (contractors, clients, utility providers, local councils).
* Support design reviews and value engineering for cost-effective and constructible solutions.
Qualifications & Experience:
Essential:
* BEng or BSc in Civil Engineering or a related field.
* 3+ years’ experience in civil/structural engineering with exposure to infrastructure utility connections.
* Experience in the EV charging, renewables, highways, or utilities sectors.
* Strong understanding of electrical cable ducting/trenching practices and utility coordination.
* Familiarity with UK regulations and standards, including NRSWA, CDM Regulations, Highways Act, and DNO connection standards.
* Proficient in AutoCAD and civil design software (e.g., Civil 3D or similar).
* Strong reporting, coordination, and problem-solving skills.
Desirable:
* Experience working with or for DNOs, IDNOs, or ICPs.
* Knowledge of EV charging technologies and layout planning.
* Understanding of reinforced concrete design and steel detailing for small-scale foundations or equipment plinths.
* CSCS card and/or SMSTS certification.
