A major engineering and infrastructure contractor delivering complex water and environmental projects across the UK is seeking a Senior Process Engineer to join their growing design and delivery team in Peterborough. The business plays a key role in developing sustainable treatment solutions, network optimisation strategies, and carbon reduction initiatives for major utility clients. Role As Senior Process Engineer, you will lead the development and delivery of process designs for water and wastewater treatment schemes. Working as part of a collaborative, multi-disciplinary team, you’ll take ownership of design outputs, provide technical leadership to junior engineers, and ensure projects meet regulatory, quality, and performance standards. Responsibilities • Lead process design and technical development for water and wastewater treatment projects • Prepare mass balance calculations, process flow diagrams (PFDs), and P&IDs • Manage feasibility studies, optioneering exercises, and detailed design stages • Provide process input to project tenders, design reviews, and risk assessments (HAZOP/HAZCON) • Support commissioning and optimisation activities, ensuring design intent is achieved on site • Mentor and support the development of junior process engineers • Ensure all work aligns with client specifications, environmental standards, and company procedures Candidate Requirements • Proven experience as a Process Engineer within the water, environmental, or utilities sectors • In-depth understanding of water and/or wastewater treatment process design • Strong technical and analytical capability with a proactive, solutions-driven mindset • Ability to lead process input across multi-disciplinary design teams • Degree in Chemical, Process, or Environmental Engineering (or equivalent) • Chartered or working towards chartership with IChemE or similar institution preferred
