The Bristol Royal Hospital for Children is delighted to be able to offer a 12 month opportunity for the role of Assistant General Manager for Surgical Services. This is a full-time Band 8a role based in the Bristol Royal Hospital for Children.
There is a range of clinical specialties within Paediatric Surgical Services including, General Surgery and Urology, Trauma and Orthopaedics, Spinal Services, Plastics and Burns, Theatres and Anaesthesia.

Key requirements for the role are: excellent interpersonal skills; significant experience of NHS operational management; a good understanding of the broader NHS system and political environment; service improvement and change management experience and a passion for high quality, compassionate care.

They will need to have excellent understanding of performance management and significant experience of delivering objectives in a challenging health care environment. The role operates within a complex and challenging environment and we are seeking an exceptional individual with a broad range of skills and experience to work closely with the General Manager. The post-holder will need to be enthusiastic and resilient.
Main duties of role:
1. Work closely with clinicians in order to achieve optimal decisions for overall patient care.
2. Ensure the highest possible quality of patient care through the development of effective teamwork and the empowerment of the Lead Clinicians & Senior Nurse/Matrons
3. Maintain and develop communication networks with key stakeholders including a variety of clinical users of the service, patients, carers, charities and voluntary organisations.
4. Ensure adequate demand and capacity modelling is carried out in order to deliver sustainable services.
5. Develop business plans and contribute to the Divisional business planning process.
6. Participate in the planning and management of capital projects, both major and minor.
7. Work with Specialised Commissioning & Clinical Commissioning Group for Children's Services to plan, develop and provide joint services with other Trusts and partners across the South West to maximise service effectiveness and efficiency.
8. Work with teams to ensure there is a clear strategic direction for the clinical service that is both owned by all staff groups and consistent with the overall aims of the region.
