Overview
Specialist Community Perinatal Mental Health Occupational Therapist (Band 5). 1x full-time post (37.5hrs) and 1x 30hrs post. We are recruiting 2 Band 5 community occupational therapists to join our specialist perinatal team.
The team works with women experiencing severe mental health issues in the perinatal period and includes OTs, mental health practitioners, psychologists/psychotherapists, parent-infant psychotherapists, nursery nurses, peer support workers and psychiatrists.
Responsibilities
* Provide occupational therapy assessments for people accessing the service, prioritising the nature, complexity and urgency of each case.
* Plan and implement an occupational therapy treatment programme on an individual and/or group basis, using graded activity to achieve therapeutic goals.
* Monitor, evaluate and modify treatment to measure progress and ensure effectiveness of intervention.
* Act as care coordinator for a designated caseload with supervision from a senior practitioner in line with CPA procedures and risk management.
* Adopt a client-centred and sensitive approach; collaborate with clients and carers where appropriate.
* Conduct occupational therapy assessments addressing physical, psychosocial, behavioural, perceptual, cognitive, sensory and environmental needs.
* Provide training and advice on lifestyle changes and environmental adaptations; make referrals as needed.
* Work with other staff and services to help clients integrate into the local community; promote active participation through practical problem-solving.
* Provide OT reports in writing and verbally to Consultants, GPs and other agencies; maintain timely correspondence.
* Contribute OT perspectives in multi-disciplinary meetings, ward rounds, clinics and case conferences.
* Maintain up-to-date records and activity data in line with professional and Trust standards.
Requirements and Qualifications
* COT Diploma or BSc Occupational Therapy Degree OR Pre-registration; HCPC Registration; MSc Occupational Therapy (desirable).
* Willingness to undertake Practice Placement Education and Trust training as identified.
* Demonstrated application of the OT process in a relevant clinical setting; knowledge of current best practice in OT.
* Ability to manage own workload, prioritise, and work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team.
* Computer literacy; understanding of health legislation and CPA; commitment to client-centred, non-discriminatory practice.
* Excellent written and oral communication; ability to engage and work collaboratively with service users; able to work independently with initiative.
Experience and Attributes
* Documented evidence of continuing professional development. Desirable: OT-specific assessment training (e.g., MOHO).
* Current driving licence and access to a car during the working day is essential (reasonable adjustments considered).
Other Details
* The posts advertised are to cover Huddersfield and Calderdale. Flexible working patterns available; service operates Monday–Friday, 9:00–17:00 with occasional extended hours as needed. Home visits and travel are required.
* Salary: £31,049 to £37,796 per year pro rata. Working pattern: Full-time, Part-time, Flexible working. Band 5. Contract: Permanent.
