How you'll make a differenceAs Team Manager, you will lead a small team who help shape and deliver the Corporate Traveller Service. You will ensure the function delivers against the relevant strategic plans, legislation, polices and procedures to benefit the Traveller community whilst ensuring community views are represented. The service is responsible for delivering our work with the Gypsy, Traveller and Romany community, including support, advice and development work for all members of the community and responding to Traveller community unauthorised encampments. What you will be doingManaging a small team, you will facilitate initiatives and engage with and support key stakeholders within and outside the council. This is to establish effective and lawful arrangements to ensure that equalities is at the centre of the long term planning and strategic development of traveller policy and where appropriate, the commissioning of the projects or services to the traveller community.You will be accountable for the two authorised sites at Patchway and Winterbourne, and the unauthorised sites across the district to ensure the safety of the Travellers and to work with the communities that are affected by their impact. You will visit these sites either alone or with other team members on a regular basis. Working with the community, you will provide or oversee the delivery of information, advice, and cultural and community focused activities. It will be key for you to provide strategic advice and comprehensive guidance and training to stakeholders across the council, and where appropriate, externally on traveller issues as they affect policy and the political and strategic direction of the council.You will lead on dialogue and negotiation for funding and support with government departments, particularly the Ministry of Housing Communities and Local Government and Homes England and develop other sources of funding to deliver projects and services. What we need from youYou must have a significant level of knowledge and understanding of the Gypsy and Traveller community, its integration and its culture.It is essential that you have extensive administrative and practical experience at a managerial level, from working within the public sector and amongst the Gypsy and Traveller community.Given the elements of this role, you will have experience in developing and delivering plans and programmes to deliver a strategic goal and a clear understanding of the principles and practical application of equalities, inclusion and safeguarding.We require you to have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to demonstrate a commitment to high standards of professional integrity. What you need to knowThis role is hybrid, with a mixture of working at our office in Badminton Road, Yate and from home. Please note that due to the nature of this role, it is a requirement of employment that an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is obtained. You will be expected to travel throughout the authority and surrounding area so you must have a full, valid driving licence with regular access to a vehicle or have an alternative means of travel. You can claim back mileage expenses. Business insurance will need to be added to your insurance policy. You will need to able to share out of hours cover, for which an on call rate is payable.
