You will gain knowledge and experience of managing nature reserves especially wet grassland sites; targeting breeding Lapwing, wintering wildfowl and freshwater ecosystems as well as farmland birds including the iconic Cirl Bunting at our Labrador Bay reserve. You must be enthusiastic, have the ability to work as part of a team and a keen interest in wildlife and conservation. An ability to work outside in all weathers and undertake strenuous manual labour. Minimum age 18 and a full clean driving license is essential. RSPB partnership project Plovers in Peril is looking for volunteers to help vulnerable beach nesting birds at key nesting sites between Snettisham and Heacham in Norfolk, from April to August. As a Volunteer Beach Ranger, you’ll be a friendly face on the beach, chatting with beach users, raising awareness of vulnerable beach nesting birds and encouraging wildlife friendly beach use - helping to reduce disturbance to nests through the season and build support within the local community. You’ll be our eyes and ears, sharing your sightings with the project team to help us monitor their progress. You’ll be part of an important species conservation project and make a real difference to a globally declining species. You’ll get to meet people from all walks of life and connect with your local community, whilst gaining opportunities to learn new skills or develop specific interests. The Reserves Team are looking for volunteers to help with the day‑to‑day running of the workshop. Alongside the Assistant Reserves Officer, they will help deliver a professional, beautifully organised workshop, and assist in the maintenance of tools and equipment. Duties will include: maintenance of hand tools including sharpening, oiling and storage, repairing any broken or damaged tools, minor servicing of machinery including chainsaws, brushcutters, helmet checks, generators and other equipment, monitoring stock of hand tools to help ensure none are lost, record keeping and usage logs (e.g. brushcutter usage records), vehicle checks and cleaning, keeping the workshop area tidy, etc. Some experience of tool use and maintenance is desirable. Must have attention to detail and be happy to work on your own and with a small team. Time: Ideally Thursday, but Tuesdays or Wednesdays could also be considered. TCV Sussex - Conservation Volunteers for leaky dam project

Leaky dams are a flood management measure to slow down water when there has been torrential rain to reduce the sudden impact downstream that can cause flooding. They are built from natural materials and there will be many of them along small watercourses, creating pools and puddles where they won’t do any damage. It is often likened to beaver behaviour! NBPT Conservation Volunteer

We are helping to make North Blackpool Pond Trail better for wildlife and a more enjoyable place for us all to visit. If you’d like to join us and help improve the Pond Trail we would value your support. The work is all outdoors – involving the conservation and maintenance of some wonderful wildlife areas. You will also get the chance to enjoy like‑minded company and learn new skills too. Time: From a couple of hours to a day a week, every Wednesday and Thursday. Park Maintenance Volunteer

Looking to volunteer outdoors and support your local Country Park? This group role works alongside volunteers and ranger staff to carry out a wide variety of tasks. Dependent on the season this could include clearing overgrowing vegetation, scrub management, installing and maintaining gates, fences and benches, as well as keeping the park tidy and litter free. No specific skills are needed but a willingness to volunteer in all weathers is appreciated! A basic level of fitness will be needed as tasks are physical and on uneven terrain. Residential Volunteering Opportunities

We have an opportunity for you to live and breathe this wonderful reserve. Accommodation is free to all residential volunteers and we are open to people looking to stay for 1‑4 weeks, 1‑2 months or 6‑12 months to get the most out of their time on the reserve. We have a variety of roles available from visitor experience to practical conservation. The 6 month role is aimed at people looking to enter the field. Whichever role you would prefer to do, we can guarantee you will be immersed in this fantastic reserve with much of the reserve to yourself once the main gates are closed each evening. Conservation Volunteers

We are always on the look out for people to join our friendly conservation volunteer team. If you are retired, looking for employment or just have a few spare hours a week and want to be out in nature then volunteering with Chiltern Rangers may be what you are looking for. All you need to do is sign up to a session you like the look of, come along for as long as you are able and we will be there to support you every step of the way. Tasks are really varied depending on the season and will include river cleans, clearing excess vegetation, building and installing bird boxes, pruning, hedgelaying, sowing seeds, tree planting and lots more. Sherbourne Valley, Practical Conservation Volunteer

The Sherbourne Valley Project is run by Warwickshire Wildlife Trust, with the aims of reconnecting the people of Coventry with the city’s river whilst helping to restore the river for wildlife. As a Practical Conservation Volunteer, you will assist the Sherbourne Valley Project team with a variety of practical tasks that will enhance the wildlife habitats along the Sherbourne Valley area. Tasks will vary throughout the year and range from tree felling and coppicing to scrub clearance in the winter, with the removal of invasive species such as Himalayan Balsam in the spring and summer. Some of the work will involve improving the quality of habitat in the river channel, all tasks will involve the use of a variety of hand tools. Tame Valley Wetlands, Tame Force

As a Tame Force Volunteer you will carry out a wide variety of practical tasks to maintain and enhance Warwickshire Wildlife Trust’s nature reserves throughout the Tame Valley Wetlands area of East Birmingham, North Warwickshire, and Staffordshire. Tasks will vary throughout the year, with a particular emphasis on wetland habitats management enhancement. Tasks include invasive species management, planting trees and wetland species, meadow and ride cutting in the summer, and coppicing, scrub removal, path work and pond work in the autumn and winter. Often the work will involve the use of hand tools, mechanical and powered equipment such as brush‑cutters, chainsaws, mowers and tractors on site. Various days of the week depending on the project. Local Reserves Group Volunteer

As a Local Reserves Group Leader, you will lead a group of volunteers on one of our local nature reserves to carry out a variety of tasks throughout the year. This is a valuable resource for enabling volunteers to give their time over a weekend, when other opportunities are limited. Tasks include: leading a group of volunteers on your designated nature reserve. To ensure that the reserves group is conducted in a safe environment and any accidents or near misses are reported to the Reserves Manager as soon as is practicable. Liaison with Reserves Manager to produce a plan of work. Thereafter to liaise with your Reserves Officer regarding ongoing practical habitat management. To maintain any tools and other WKWT owned resources in accordance with good working practice. Various times - generally meet at 09:30 and finish mid‑afternoon. Conservation Volunteer

Private Fen Wetland Nature Reserve Assistant

Griffin Fen is a privately owned 30 acre nature reserve. 1 or more volunteers are required to assist with general maintenance. Flexible times from 4 - 12 hours per week. Various opportunities exist. Would suit either someone that has existing knowledge of the fen/marsh environment and they would enjoy being involved with maintaining the reserve while able to enjoy access to a normally private area; or someone that would like to work and gain experience of the specialised flora or fauna of a Norfolk fen; or someone that is involved in research or studying of this type of environment and feels that their studies would benefit and experience gained. Knowledge of fen wildlife would be an advantage but not essential.
