Clinical Fellow Medical Retina

We are looking for a dedicated candidate for the post of Medical Retina Clinical Fellow in Ophthalmology. The role will involve clinical sessions to gain experience in specialist clinics and a cataract theatre list.
We offer a full range of hospital eye care services including specialist outpatient clinics, admitted care and an acute referral service for eye emergencies.
The eye department accommodates ophthalmic outpatients, a day surgery suite with dedicated ophthalmic theatre, minor ops and integrated orthoptic and optometric services. There is a laser suite for YAG and Argon laser, a full suite of diagnostic facilities and the team are in the process of establishing a dedicated diagnostic Hub. The trust have implemented Medisight electronic patient records and been in use since July 2021 and is interconnected with other MSE Trust Sites.
This post is ideally suited to candidates who have some experience in Medical Retina (MR) and wish to further their clinical and surgical skills.

This post is not recognised for specialist training by the Royal College of Ophthalmologists currently.

Main duties of the job
The Fellow will be responsible for undertaking all clinics and theatre sessions according to the agreed timetable and managing medical retina emergencies. Duties include coordinating the acute ophthalmology service, overseeing ward and casualty referrals from A&E, and participating in the first-on-call emergency rota. The post-holder will be expected to complete patient administration promptly, contribute to regular medical retina teaching, and participate in an annual appraisal.
The successful candidate will also have opportunities to gain experience in complex cataract surgery, engage in clinical audit activities, and support the teaching of medical students, as well as take part in research initiatives.

Qualifications
* Full GMC registration and a license to practice
* Higher additional qualification
Clinical Experience
* Applicants must evidence at least 3 years of ophthalmic training equivalent to that recognised in the UK
* Able to deal with general Ophthalmology emergencies
* Evidence of participation in research and continued professional development Logbook indicating validated experience of appropriate range and number of clinical procedures including cataract surgery
* Experience in cataract surgery
* Attendance at relevant ophthalmic training courses
* Experience of developing effective and collaborative working relationships
