Senior Mechanical Design Engineer - Aerospace and Defence
An opportunity has arisen for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join an Aerospace and Defence Research Organisation in Milton Keynes. The successful Senior Mechanical Design Engineer will be part of the Engineering Team, contributing to the development of advanced aerospace capabilities and research.
The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer will report to the Design Team Leader and Engineering Managers. The role requires strong knowledge of part and assembly design, structural analysis, and modern manufacturing techniques. The candidate should be self-motivated, organized, able to prioritize, and accustomed to working under pressure.
Responsibilities:
* Perform static stress calculations using hand methods and Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
* Generate detailed stress reports presenting stress calculations and FEA results.
* Review work of others, including stress reports and approvals.
* Assist in preparing bids and work breakdowns for projects.
* Coordinate with production engineers on manufacturing process specifications.
* Support Manufacturing, Inspection, and Fitting departments in resolving design issues.
* Collaborate with test and rigging teams to ensure best practices.
* Provide technical leadership within projects, adhering to schedules.
* Mentor and develop team members.
* Lead a small team of design engineers, offering technical guidance.
* Serve as a technical specialist in mechanical design for the business.
Qualifications, Knowledge, and Skills:
* Strong understanding of mechanical principles, stress analysis, and engineering drawings.
* Extensive experience with manufacturing and production systems, procedures, machinery, and tools.
* Problem-solving skills applied logically and efficiently.
* Ability to organize and manage workload effectively.
* Project management, time management, and people management skills.
* Creativity and curiosity in mechanical design; proficiency with CATIA V5.
* Competent with Microsoft Office suite.
* Self-motivated, confident, and committed to customer satisfaction.
* Relevant experience with a degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical discipline (degree preferred).
