A rewarding role where each day could be different, building relationships with children and young people within our packages of care, helping to make a difference to their lives and see the impact support can have on families.
We have an exciting opportunity for Health Care Support Workers to join our Children’s Packages of Care Team (CPOC). We are seeking highly motivated and enthusiastic individuals due to service expansion.
Please note, following recent national updates regarding Certificates of Sponsorship issued after 9 April 2025, the minimum salary threshold for skilled workers has increased to £25,000 per year. This increase also affects the Health and Care Visa route for occupations paid by NHS bands. Consequently, entry-level Band 3 roles may not be eligible for sponsorship.
Therefore, this role is unlikely to be eligible for Skilled Worker visa sponsorship. Applicants without the right to work in the UK may not be considered. Candidates requiring sponsorship should review eligibility criteria on the gov.uk website before applying to assess their eligibility for a Certificate of Sponsorship.
HCSWs in this team are lone workers, responsible for caring for children with complex needs after comprehensive training. Duties include overnight care at home, accompanying children to school, and working with other HCSWs or nurses to provide complete breaks for parents.
Following training and competency assessment, HCSWs will independently care for children with medical needs such as tracheostomies, gastrostomies, medication administration, and oxygen therapy.
Shift times vary based on the child's needs, including days, nights, and weekends, over a 24-hour period. The team operates within the Children’s Complex Needs Nursing Service, serving children across Lancashire and South Cumbria Foundation Trust.
This role involves shift work, including nights and weekends. Night shifts only can also be considered.
Applicants must have a valid UK driving license or access to a vehicle, as travel across the service area is required. Bases are in Burnley and Preston, with packages across Lancashire (travel expenses reimbursed).
Ideal candidates are organized, able to work independently and in teams, adaptable, calm under pressure, and flexible. Experience in health, social care, or education with children is preferred. An NVQ Level 3 in care or equivalent is desirable, but full training will be provided.
This rewarding role involves caring for children in their homes or schools, providing personal care, moving and handling, and engaging in play. Some children have additional health needs requiring full training, which will be provided.
You will be supported by an experienced management team, peer support, opportunities to work with specialists, and a personal development plan. Career progression from HCSW to Nursing Associate is available, along with annual reviews, training, and well-being sessions.
This NHS-run service offers benefits such as enhanced pay for nights and weekends, pension, sick leave, annual leave, and access to training.
