As an IT Solutions Architect, you’ll provide technical leadership and architecture design across our technology and security functions as we grow our plans for a true tech enabled future.

It’s about maintaining and aligning roadmaps to business strategy, working with stakeholders to define departmental and organisational strategy, and translating problems into easily understood technical descriptions. Which means this is a key role that will help us digitise our products, create outstanding experiences for our members, and drive our unique and innovative tech strategy.

Who are we?

Not just another building society. Not just another job.

We're the fourth biggest building society in the UK and what makes us a bit different is that we're a mutual organisation. We don't have shareholders; we're owned by our members.

Our colleagues say Skipton's a great place to work, and you could be one of them, bringing with you new ideas on how we can keep our members at the heart of what we do.

Whatever your background, and whatever your goals, we'll help you take the next step towards a better future.

In this exciting role, you’ll work on innovative projects like our UK-first Affordability Index tool, while helping us create outstanding experiences in savings, mortgages, and more.

We know how important tech and data are, and we want them to play a key role in helping us achieve our vision and purpose. That’s why we’ve built a tech leadership team that has a true passion for tech and data, and a commitment to investing in real learning and development. Our tech stack is varied and includes Azure, React, .NET and MS Power Platform and Dynamics. And everyone can make the most of two days every month for L&D - whether that’s cross-skilling programs, hackathons, or even funding for certifications.

This is about creating brand new capabilities in tech for our organisation and our industry - which means there’s never been a more exciting time to join us.

What’s in it for you?

Skipton values work/life balance and we are proud to support hybrid and flexible working, where possible. We have a newly refurbished head office which offers a vibrant and collaborative working space.

We have a range of other benefits available to you including;

1. Annual discretionary bonus scheme
2. 25 days standard annual leave + bank holidays + rising 1 day per year of service to a maximum of 30 days
3. Holiday trading scheme allowing the ability to buy and sell additional annual leave days
4. Matching employer pension contribution (up to 10% per annum)
5. Colleague mortgage (conditions apply)
6. Salary sacrifice scheme for hybrid & electric car
7. A commitment to training and development
8. Private medical insurance for all our colleagues
9. 3 paid volunteering days per annum
10. Diverse and inclusive colleague networks available for you to join including our Carers and Pride Alliance groups
11. We care about your health and wellbeing – we provide a range of benefits that support this including a cycle to work initiative and discounted gym membership

What you’ll be doing

Day to day, you’ll develop and communicate a multi-dimensional solution architecture to help deliver agreed business outcomes.

The role also involves:

12. Leading the preparation of technical plans and making sure that appropriate technical resources are available, understood and deployed.
13. Providing technical guidance and governance on solution development and integration.
14. Evaluating requests for changes and deviations from specifications and recommending actions.
15. Making sure that relevant technical strategies, policies, standards and practices (including security) are applied correctly.

What we need from you

You'll need to be familiar with the software development lifecycle. A knowledge of the typical problems associated with the implementation and operations of information systems from initial concept through development and implementation to operation and support is also important.

You’ll also need:

16. A knowledge of technology infrastructure, data, security and software development and maintenance methods, tools and techniques.
17. Experience in technology strategy, policies and standards, and industry regulations/constraints.
18. A good appreciation of risk management, change management, configuration management, reliability and safety methods and the use of metrics.
19. A familiarity with both generic and specific recognised industry bodies.
20. Leadership skills in operational management, along with the energy to continually develop and grow.
21. Expertise in coaching and mentoring colleagues in one or more areas of responsibility.
22. A creative approach to identifying solutions that will deliver value to members and stakeholders.
23. Strong communication skills in both formal and informal settings.
24. An ability to articulate complex ideas to broad audiences
