Overview
This is an exciting opportunity to be part of an internationally recognised council for its homelessness prevention work as evidenced by the World Habitat 2020 Gold Award. The role of the Homelessness Prevention Officer is to find homelessness prevention and relief options for residents at risk by working collaboratively with housing and homelessness services and other relevant partners. You will be joining an award winning team recently recognised at the Staff Star awards 2025. This role can be demanding but rewarding, providing a real opportunity to help people to access the services they require.
Responsibilities
* Carry out statutory homeless assessments making appropriate enquiries to inform decisions in line with national legislation and local policy aims and to determine the available options for the individual.
* Use IT and case recording systems to coordinate and manage a caseload.
* Solve problems within the context of the Council’s policies and legal duties, meet deadlines, and work both independently and as part of a team.
* Negotiate and communicate empathetically with people while being sensitive to different life experiences.
Qualifications
* Good understanding of the issues surrounding homelessness and its prevention.
* Strong IT and case recording and coordination skills.
* Ability to solve problems within the context of the Council’s policies and legal duties.
* Capacity to manage a caseload, meet deadlines, and work on your own initiative and as part of a team.
* Excellent negotiation and empathetic communication skills.
