We're looking for a Design Engineer to join our Design team based in Salford. Kier Design is a top‑25 engineering consultancy delivering construction‑focused, innovative and sustainable solutions across the built environment.
Location: Salford, Greater Manchester
Hours: 40 hours per week – some flexibility available.
Responsibilities and Day‑to‑Day Work
* Agree and challenge the techniques and technical requirements of the client remit, leading the development of fee proposals in accordance with delegated authority policy.
* Organise and lead the day‑to‑day workload of engineers and technical staff, ensuring technical compliance of the design to the remit, applicable legal requirements, CDM Regulations, Kier SHE Management System (SHEMS), and Design Quality Management System (QMS).
* Oversee the production of design deliverables – calculations, drawings, reports, risk assessments – and identify technical opportunities for value engineering.
* Build and maintain positive relationships with clients, design and site teams, supporting fulfilment of contractual obligations and meeting or exceeding Kier Design expectations.
* Represent the project at client and progress meetings, manage financial and commercial aspects of the project in partnership with Engineering Manager and Commercial Manager, monitor progress against agreed programme and budget.
* Maintain project documentation and records, provide regular project reports to the Engineering Manager and client, including financial updates, programme forecasts and early warnings on significant overspends.
* Review monthly invoices, seek regular feedback from clients and note lessons learned for continuous improvement.
Qualifications
* Completed IEng Initial Professional Development (or equivalent CEng progress) with a relevant institution such as ICE and practical industry‑relevant experience.
* Hold Level 6 or Level 7 qualifications and significant relevant experience.
