We're looking for an Automation and Metallics Engineer to join a forward‑thinking Manufacturing Technologies team, supporting the development and deployment of advanced automated assembly solutions within an industry-leading aerospace environment.
In this role, you'll play a key part in shaping the future of aircraft wing assembly by working with cutting‑edge automation, robotics and digital technologies. What you'll be doing
As an Automation and Metallics Engineer, your responsibilities will include:
1. Supporting the definition, development and introduction of new automated assembly machinery, ensuring safe and efficient implementation.
2. Developing and optimising automated assembly processes, including drilling, fastening, cold‑working and sealing.
3. Working with a broad range of automation technologies, from large Cartesian machines and industrial robots to lightweight and collaborative robotic (cobot) solutions.
4. Providing technical support to existing automated machinery, resolving issues and driving performance improvements.
5. Managing assigned projects, contributing to planning, delivery, risk management and stakeholder communication.
6. Ensuring compliance with PUWER requirements and supporting safe machinery introduction.
7. Using digital and data tools to support problem‑solving, root cause analysis and process improvement.
What we're looking for
We're keen to hear from candidates who can demonstrate:
8. A degree-level qualification (or equivalent) in Engineering.
9. Proven experience in automation, robotics or advanced manufacturing environments.
10. Knowledge of manufacturing and production processes, ideally within a high‑volume or regulated setting.
11. Understanding of PUWER and REACH legislation.
12. Experience of project management within an engineering or manufacturing context.
13. Strong digital skills, including experience using statistical or data analysis tools such as Minitab or Skywise.
14. A structured approach to problem-solving, including continuous improvement methodologies (e.g. PPS).
15. Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.
