Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and hard-working Rehabilitation Assistant to join our therapy service at Royal Manchester Children's Hospital (RMCH). Working under the direction of qualified therapists, you will support children and young people with a range of injuries, illnesses, and complex needs across a range of specialities to achieve their individualised goals using a wide range of therapeutic activities. This will include the use of the hydrotherapy pool.

Alongside the clinical support to the patients, the post involves a significant amount of daily non-clinical duties including cleaning equipment, organising servicing of equipment, and administration duties.

The successful candidate will be a confident communicator, able to adapt their communication style to children and young people with a variety of needs, including cognitive difficulties, and be able to work well in a team. Basic IT skills are essential for this role, which involves some office-based duties as well as keeping electronic records and inputting information accurately into online databases.

You will be able to motivate and encourage children and young people with their therapy and have an empathetic nature.

Main duties of the job

You will undertake treatment programmes with patients as delegated by a qualified health care professional and report back to them. Patients will be seen in both inpatient and outpatient settings. There will be a requirement to work flexibly to cross cover, supporting across teams for planned and unplanned absence. There is an expectation to achieve therapy competencies within 6 months of appointment, for which we will provide access to training. There will be support for lifelong learning and a commitment to annual appraisals.
