Job overview
To provide the Trust with an effective and efficient maintenance and repair service by supporting the day to day activities of the estates mechanical maintenance services, so as to deliver a robust, technically strong customer responsive service which complies with relevant statutory directives.
Also to monitor and guide the staff within your team, and be responsible for external contractors completing their tasks and objectives safely and effectively.

Main duties of the job
We are looking for a bright and ambitious Operational Assistant Estates Officer to join our great team at Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust. We are looking for someone who has a strong track record of managing and delivering a customer focused Estates service at a similar level in a highly complex environment, preferably in healthcare.
We need Assistant Estates Officers who will support a team, where the quality of service, a safe patient and staff environment, strong financial management and statutory compliance are the key drivers within all areas of the service. This is a key role within our operational team, and we are keen to recruit motivated individuals who will help us to provide the levels of service that we continually strive to provide to our patients and clinical colleagues. The post holder will assist in the delivery of estates operational plans and will provide operational support in the delivery of capital projects. They will support the Maintenance Manager to ensure appropriate financial, workforce, contractor and performance management arrangements are in place.

Qualifications and training
* HND/HNC in a relevant estate discipline appropriate for this role or equivalent qualification, or demonstrable acquired knowledge and experience.
* Proven track record of Continuing Professional Development within the building and built environment.
* Working towards recognised professional qualification of one of the professional institutes that is recognised by the NHS
* Accredited qualification in management or demonstrable relevant experience
Knowledge and experience
* Knowledge and understanding of operational estate management in the building disciplines.
* Knowledge of health and safety matters relating to the estate and a broad understanding of statutory and mandatory requirements and procedures.
* Effective communicator with good written and verbal communication skills at all levels, and good negotiation skills.
* Knowledge of maintenance planning and organisation (PPM, reactive, contract, etc)
* Knowledge and understanding of Health & Safety legislation and the need for risk assessments and application in the context of managing risk
* Experience of implementing quality controls, processes and procedures
* Knowledge of building associated systems and safety requirements within healthcare premises and associated buildings
* Knowledge of legislation relating to estates services
* Good experience in building infrastructure and all associated systems in NHS Estates
* Budgetary control, planning and forecasting
