Job Overview
Fife Council’s Planning, Climate and Sustainability Service is recruiting a Graduate Planner (FC7) or Planner (FC8) to join our Major Business & Customer Service Team dealing with strategic applications. The role involves assessing planning applications, providing pre‑application advice, engaging with applicants and communities, and shaping development that supports our climate and placemaking ambitions. You’ll work on major housing, renewable energy, infrastructure and regeneration proposals across Fife and will be part of a supportive, multidisciplinary team working on some of the region’s most significant projects.
Responsibilities
• Assess planning applications and provide timely, accurate assessments.
• Offer pre‑application advice to applicants and stakeholders.
• Engage with applicants, community members and other stakeholders to build understanding and support for proposals.
• Shape development proposals to align with Fife’s climate and placemaking objectives.
• Contribute to the delivery of a high‑quality, sustainable planning service.
Qualifications
* Degree or equivalent in Town and Country Planning.
* Membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI). Chartered Members will be appointed at FC8 level; Licentiate Members at FC7 level.
* Sound planning knowledge and strong problem‑solving skills.
* Excellent communication and customer service skills.
* Ability to demonstrate competence and knowledge of planning commensurate with the post.
