Role Overview
As a Principal Electrical Engineer you will play a pivotal role in shaping the electrical functions throughout the lifecycle of various projects, from concept design to commissioning.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead and oversee the design, planning and execution of electrical engineering on projects, working with Motor Control Centres, LV distribution systems, Cabling, Instrumentation, Industrial Networks, PLCs and SCADA.
* Provide design support and guidance for schemes, ensuring all designs are fit for purpose and meet current legislation and standards.
* Possess a broad knowledge of industry standards and legislation and appropriately challenge client specifications.
* Identify opportunities to improve delivery processes, including the development and implementation of standard designs, sustainable solutions and digital tools.
* Act as technical checker on project documents and undertake technical reviews for projects across teams.
* Manage the interfaces and integration of the design with other disciplines and produce documentation.
* Seek input from engineers, specialists, client and project team members to improve understanding and deliver fit‑for‑purpose solutions.
* Collaborate with commercial, operational and construction teams to develop efficient, practical and safe solutions throughout design stages, construction and beyond.
* Supervise and mentor graduates and engineers to develop their knowledge and skills.
* Engage positively with the client, managing relationships and adopting a one‑team approach to support them.
* Undertake site reviews to ensure buildability of solutions and integration within existing systems.
Requirements
* Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
* Chartered member of a professional institution (e.g., ICE, IMechE) or equivalent experience.
* Experience with water, wastewater, non‑infrastructure or infrastructure projects.
* Track record of successfully delivering high‑quality outputs in accordance with design, quality and safety standards.
* Excellent communication skills with team members and stakeholders.
* Methodical approach to problem solving and a proactive, pragmatic attitude.
* Ability to deliver results within short timeframes, prioritise tasks and manage time efficiently.
* A valid driving licence and willingness to travel to sites.
