Join Nationwide’s financial crime team to enhance customer and payment screening systems. You’ll test sanction lists for accuracy and screening filters for effectiveness, using tools like Fircosoft or Actimize. The role involves analysing data, identifying gaps, and improving system performance while ensuring compliance. Strong analytical skills, governance awareness, and stakeholder engagement are key.

You’ll be part of a high performing and committed financial crime team, focusing on testing of our customer and payment screening, as well as testing of the lists we use to screen against. Using your screening experience, you’ll be working to deliver high quality analysis to help us optimise the performance of our financial crime systems. This will involve working with analytical tools and specialist financial crime systems to build, document and maintain key financial crime monitoring solutions.

At Nationwide we offer hybrid working wherever possible. More rewarding relationships are supported through our hybrid approach, bringing colleagues together across our UK wide estate, whilst also supporting generous access to home working. We value our time in the office to solve problems, to learn, and to feel connected.

For this job you\'ll spend at least two days per week, or if part time you\'ll spend 40% of your working time, based at either our Swindon, Bournemouth, London, Northampton or Glasgow office. If your application is successful, your hiring manager will provide further details on how this works. You can also find out more about our approach to hybrid working here.

If we receive a high volume of relevant applications, we may close the advert earlier than the advertised date, so please apply as soon as you can.

What to do next

If this role is for you, please click the ‘Apply Now’ button. You\'ll need to attach your up-to-date CV and answer a few quick questions for us.

We respond to everyone, so we will be in contact shortly after the closing date to let you know the outcome of your application.

What you’ll be doing

Your will have two primary responsibilities within this role, which relate to different types of testing. The first testing is of our PEP (Political Exposed Persons, SIP (Special Interest Persons), RCA (Relatives and Close Associates) and Sanction lists which we source from Dow Jones - for timeliness, completeness and accuracy. The second testing is of our customer and payment screening filters against direct and indirect (fuzzy) matching effectiveness, helping the business identify where there may be gaps in coverage and working with the team to understand exposure in line with business, compliance and regulatory requirements. Both activities occur periodically within an annual cycle.

Performing both activities will involve working alongside others in the team, as well as stakeholders in the business to identify where configurations or performance can be enhanced. Overall, the aim is to improve efficiency whilst maintaining effectiveness, all within our risk appetite.

About you

As a minimum requirement you will have:

Experience configuring and tuning sanction - screening tools such as Fircosoft or Actimize

Strong understanding of screening - list management, ensuring lists are accurate, complete and up - to date, while confidently investigating and resolving any data issues

The ability to carry out effectiveness testing on customer and payment screening tools, analysing direct and fuzzy match misses to guide improvements and support configuration decisions

Proven technical and analytical skills, with the ability to translate complex insights into clear, accessible information for a wide range of colleagues

Strong understanding of governance processes, supported by a track record of accurate, reliable delivery

Excellent problem - solving ability, including identifying and addressing the root causes of screening misses

Confident stakeholder management, working effectively across teams and with external vendors to build strong, collaborative relationships

Experience with SQL, SAS, or similar coding languages is an advantage

Our customer first behaviours put customers and members at the heart of how we work together. They are the set of behaviours that every colleague needs to display, in every role:

Feel what customers feel - We step into our customers’ shoes, using their feedback and insights to empathise with them and to understand their needs, so that every decision we make starts and finishes with our customers in mind

Say it straight - We are brave in speaking out and saying what we think – we’re honest and direct with good intent, openly sharing diverse perspectives to reach the best conclusions and using language everyone can understand

Push for better - We don’t settle for mediocrity, we challenge the status quo, taking responsibility for continuous improvement and personal development

Get it done - We prioritise what will have the greatest impact, we are decisive, and we take accountability for delivering brilliant customer outcomes

You can strengthen your application by showing how our customer first behaviours resonate with you, and where you may have already demonstrated these.
