We are seeking a Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist to provide specialist assessment, treatment, and risk management for individuals with complex mental health and forensic needs in community-based settings.
Role Overview
This role involves delivering high-quality, person-centred psychiatric care, working as part of a multidisciplinary team to support individuals with forensic histories, mental illness, and complex behavioural presentations.
Key Responsibilities
* Conduct forensic psychiatric assessments, risk formulation, and management planning
* Provide expert clinical input on complex cases, including dual diagnosis and behavioural needs
* Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across mental health and disability services
* Support clinical governance, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance
* Contribute to maintaining standards aligned with national regulatory bodies
* Provide cover for consultant colleagues as required
Requirements
* Specialist registration with the Irish Medical Council (or eligibility)
* Proven experience in forensic psychiatry
* Strong skills in risk assessment and biopsychosocial formulation
* Experience working with complex mental health and/or intellectual disability populations
* Excellent communication, decision-making, and teamwork abilities
* Experience across forensic and intellectual disability services
* Involvement in research, audit, or medical education
