Job Summary
GKN Aerospace is seeking a dedicated Sr. Physical Vapor Deposition Technician who will be working on new product development and supporting existing products for transparencies (glass/plastics) use on military and commercial aircrafts.
Job Responsibilities
1. Support R&D Engineering with Physical Vapor Deposition coating projects and new product development.
2. Assist with chemical flow coatings and preparation of samples, as directed.
3. Must be able to work with operators to run Physical Vapor Deposition coating tests in vacuum chamber.
4. Coordinate with Operations to schedule Physical Vapor Deposition Coating testing.
5. Perform physical testing of products and use machine shop equipment to fabricate test samples/coupons, as directed.
6. Independently manage day-to-day workload.
7. Work under the direction of R&D engineering to directly support plant operations, as directed.
8. Support R&D Engineering by performing sample preparation work in machine shop.
9. Support in collection and compilation of test data.
10. Support R&D activities in characterization of thin film materials.
Required Qualifications:
11. Associates Degree in physics or material sciences. Will also accept 5 years of experience in Physical Vapor Deposition process and equipment in lieu of a degree.
12. 2 Years of Physical Vapor Deposition/ Sputter coating and equipment experience to include knowledge of vacuum chambers and major components, working with machine shop equipment, and troubleshooting skills for machines and process problems.
13. Proven ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical literature/ specifications.
14. Basic computer skills with general Microsoft Office knowledge.
15. Able to lift up to 40 lbs as needed.
16. U.S. Citizenship per ITAR regulations to comply with export compliance and site SSA requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
17. College level background in science, math and combined relevant work experience.
18. Hands on sample preparation - Detail oriented and able to follow work instructions.
19. Willingness to work overtime and weekends to support R&D Engineering as needed/ directed.
20. Ability to maintain a clean and safe work environment.
21. Aerospace industry experience with an emphasis in physical vapor deposition.
22. Experience with PLC and other software is a plus.
23. Ability to work within a multifunctional team.
24. Familiarity with Machine shop equipment.
25. Familiarity with aerospace industry test standards.
26. Strong attention to detail.
27. Good communications skills.
