Due to ongoing project growth, the position of Senior Cost Engineer is required on a landmark energy project in Teesside. As the Senior Cost Engineer, you will work within the project controls team and be responsible for cost control and forecasting. You will play a central role in application for payment, earned value management, and weekly and monthly reporting. Your insights into variances between planned and actual costs, along with recommendations for mitigation, will support the efficient delivery of the project.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Monitor, control, and analyze project cost information, identify variances, and communicate these to the Project Manager with possible alternatives. Prepare reports to facilitate challenge and analysis.
2. Collate, check, and provide staff costs to the commercial team for payment applications.
3. Provide actual costs versus planned for CPI calculation.
4. Generate weekly and monthly cost and hours reports, including planned, actuals, and forecasts.
5. Ensure the basis of Estimates at Completion (EAC) is predicted using industry-recognized approaches, including the latest resource schedule and EVM productivity, to ensure accurate forecasting.
6. Provide insights on variances and trends for management intervention.
7. Coach and support junior team members.
8. Maintain effective interface with Finance and Commercial teams through regular communication.
9. Support change management and incorporate changes into relevant cost management artifacts.
10. Assist in the management of contingency.
11. Review labor bookings and cost allocations in line with project principles.
Qualifications & Experience:
* Degree/HNC/HND in Quantity Surveying, Construction, Engineering, or relevant experience.
* Experience in a similar role on a complex project, ideally in energy sector.
* Proficiency in Excel and exposure to bespoke cost management software.
* Experience in cost control, forecasting, earned value management, and project reporting.
* Effective communication skills with team and stakeholders.
* High numeracy and analytical skills.
* Experience across the entire project lifecycle (Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Installation/Commissioning).
* Experience with Business Intelligence Software (e.g., Power BI) is preferred but not essential.
