Job Description

Data and analytics is a core part of H.W. Kaufman International’s growth strategy. The Actuarial Centre of Excellence team are driving analytical support across our diverse business (supporting broking, MGA and our US insurer) by developing pricing models to support our underwriters, providing profitability analysis across a range of classes, providing reinsurance programme structuring advice, reserving for our US insurer, building dynamic reporting solutions and working with our clients and capacity partner to provide transparency and insights. As an actuarial team, our focus is to help our business solve complex problems in partnership with our brokers and underwriters - all whilst having a commercial mindset and developing our actuarial skills further. We want to be a place to learn and have fun!

As an actuarial team we have invested in leading edge technology to support our client-centered delivery. Notably we have recently implemented Hyperexponential as our pricing platform across RB Jones, we leverage LCP’s InsurSight for reserving and profitability analysis and Amarillo, our bordereaux management system. We work closely with our CTO to enable these tools and let us continue to develop our process along with Python, PowerBI and other more general data and modelling tools.

Personal Responsibilities:

Support actuarial work across:

* Atain (our US insurer) – supporting quarterly reserving focussed on NA binders and delegated authority book and casualty lines
* RB Jones (our MGA business) – supporting profitability analysis, profit commission calculations, pricing model development and rate adequacy reporting
* Burns & Wilcox (our broking businesses) – supporting reinsurance programme structuring, NA binder business reporting and other ad hoc analysis to support our broking teams produce revenue and deliver for our clients
* The role will include supporting across the following: pricing, reserving, portfolio analysis, reinsurance structuring, exposure management and reporting.
* Maintain progress toward professional qualification (if not yet qualified) and ongoing CPD requirements.
* Promote good communication, collaboration, and knowledge sharing across teams.
* Contribute to continuous improvements in actuarial processes, governance, documentation, and model controls.

Duties and Key Responsibilities as Analyst in Actuarial Centre of Excellence

Reserving

* Produce reserving analyses for both short tail and long‑tail classes.
* Prepare reserve summaries, actuarial reports, and insights for management, underwriters, and external stakeholders.

Pricing & Portfolio Analytics

* Assist underwriters with case pricing and rate change analysis.
* Support stochastic models to identify appropriate reinsurance structures.
* Refine rating models for delegated authority and open‑market business.
* Build pricing tools in hyperexponential to support MGA underwriting teams.
* Perform profitability studies, loss ratio diagnostics, and exposure benchmarking across our portfolios.

Data & Reporting

* Develop and enhance Python-based tools to automate reserving, exposure analysis, and data validation.
* Support the integration of data from multiple sources (binder bordereaux, claims systems, broker submissions)
* Support development of reporting dashboards in PowerBI across a number of use cases across the business (e.g. performance reviews, rate adequacy reporting, broker productivity reviews etc)
* Maintain modelling documentation, testing logs, and version control in line with model governance standards.

Experience, Skills and Competencies Required:

Experience

* Nearly or newly qualified actuary (IFoA or equivalent) with 2–4 years of actuarial experience alongside their studies
* Lloyd’s or London Market experience, ideally covering long‑tail specialty lines.
* Experience in reserving; exposure to pricing or portfolio analysis an advantage.

Technical Skills

* Strong working knowledge of actuarial reserving techniques ideally for long‑tail lines.
* Ideally competent in Python, with ability to automate workflows and build analytical tools.
* Proficient in Excel; Power BI or other analytics tools desirable.

Competencies

* Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with excellent attention to detail.
* Ability to explain technical output clearly to non‑actuaries.
* Proactive, organised, and able to manage multiple deadlines.

* High standards of integrity, professionalism, and conduct.
