MPFT are delighted to offer this opportunity to develop a Psychology Service into Specialist Weight Management Services (SWMS) at Shrewsbury and Telford Hospitals (SaTH). SWMS offers a service for adults in Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin, who have a BMI of 40 or more or 35 with co-morbidities, who have previously failed to achieve a healthy weight with GP support. An integral part of this service requires the provision of Psychology support to those patients identified as having psychological needs.

The Counselling/Clinical Psychologist's role will be to provide focused psychological and behavioural change support, prepare those patients who are considering progression to bariatric surgery and provide post-operative support.

The Psychologist will also provide psychological advice and support to the consultant surgeons and the mental health dietician and be an integral part of the MDT.

You will have the opportunity for supportive links with a growing number of Psychologists working into Physical Health Psychology specialisms in MPFT's Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin Care Group, as well as being part of our large and thriving Psychological Practice group.

Main duties of the job

* To provide specialist assessment of adults within Specialist Weight Management Services (SWMS) utilising information from a range of standardised psychometric tests, case history and clinical interview and integrating it into a formulation of the client and the psychosocial environment drawing on a range of psychological perspectives.
* To undertake a range of evidence-based psychological interventions, drawing on a range of psychological models and employing a range of modalities (individual, family and group) adapted and tailored to the needs of the individual and the context and the ongoing evaluation of the outcomes of the intervention.
* To formulate and implement plans for the formal psychological treatment and/or management of a client's condition, based upon an appropriate conceptual framework of the client's difficulties, and employing methods based upon evidence of efficacy, across the full range of care settings.
* To evaluate and make specialist decisions about psychological treatment options taking into account both theoretical and therapeutic models and highly complex factors concerning historical and developmental processes that have shaped the individual, family or group in the context of bariatric surgery.
