The Childrens Wellbeing Practitioner (CWP) plays a key role in delivering early intervention, person‑centred support to children, young people and families across Swindon. Working as part of a multidisciplinary mental health service, the role involves evidence‑based support for mild to moderate mental health difficulties through assessments, low‑intensity interventions and practical coping strategies. It also includes close collaboration with families, schools and partner agencies to ensure care is holistic, accessible and responsive, while contributing to ongoing service development.


Main duties of the job

This is a rewarding role focused on delivering evidence‑based, low‑intensity interventions to children and young people experiencing mild to moderate mental health difficulties, including anxiety, low mood and behavioural challenges. Key responsibilities include conducting initial assessments, identifying needs and developing collaborative treatment plans. The CWP will deliver one‑to‑one and group interventions through face‑to‑face and blended approaches, lead parenting interventions (Triple P Parenting Programme), monitor progress through routine measures, and respond appropriately to safeguarding concerns by providing immediate support where needed. Ongoing training, professional development, supervision and peer support are integral to maintaining best practice and continuous growth. The role also allows for any additional duties appropriate to support service development and ensure high‑quality care.


Job responsibilities

The Childrens Wellbeing Practitioner (CWP) will provide brief, evidence‑based, outcome‑focused psychological interventions for children and young people with mild to moderate mental health difficulties, as part of a multidisciplinary service. Responsibilities include assessing, delivering support and fostering practical coping skills. The successful candidate will collaborate with families, schools and other professionals to ensure holistic, responsive care, work within professional and ethical guidelines, engage in supervision, and contribute to service development.

Main duties and responsibilities:

* Deliver evidence‑based low‑intensity interventions for children and young people with mild to moderate mental health difficulties.
* Conduct initial assessments, formulate needs and develop collaborative treatment plans.
* Provide one‑to‑one and group interventions, face‑to‑face and/or blended modalities, involving families where appropriate.
* Lead Parenting Interventions (Evidence‑based Triple P Parenting course).
* Monitor outcomes and progress using routine outcome measures to inform ongoing support.
* Monitor and improve local access metrics for children and young people.
* Respond to safeguarding concerns and provide immediate support to children and families.
* Stay current with developments in child and adolescent mental health; attend training, workshops, and conferences as needed.
* Participate in regular supervision and peer support meetings to ensure best practices and continuous professional growth.
* Any other duties appropriate to the role to support the development of service offering and quality of care.

Experience in delivering phone‑based assessments or support within a health, education or social care context.

Knowledge of emotional wellbeing needs in children and young people.

Strong understanding of the local support landscape or willingness to rapidly develop this knowledge.

Ability to listen actively and communicate effectively, showing empathy and cultural sensitivity.

Ability to assess levels of need, manage risk, and provide appropriate sign‑posting or escalation.

Strong documentation and record‑keeping skills, ensuring accurate, evidence‑based case notes.

Proficiency with digital systems, including client management systems and Microsoft Office.

Cultural competency and sensitivity to the diverse needs of the community.

Confidence to work independently while contributing to a wider multidisciplinary team.

Qualifications

* Qualified Children's Wellbeing Practitioner accredited with a professional body (BABCP or BPS).
* Mentorship qualification or equivalent.
* Evidence of post‑registration training.
* Evidence‑based Triple P Parenting course training (can be offered).


Experience

* Knowledge of development in MH CYP, family development and transitions.
* Able to demonstrate clinical outcomes and meet agreed performance targets.
* Ability to manage own caseload and time.
* Experience working in an enhanced‑need MH multidisciplinary team and with external professionals such as emergency services.
* Ability to work independently to assess and manage risks and recognise/respond to child protection and safeguarding concerns.
* Experience in quality improvement measures.
* Experience using IAPTus.
