We are currently recruiting for a Service Technician-Escalators to join our team based in Coventry on a full-time and permanent basis. The technician will carry out planned preventative maintenance regimes as determined by the contract terms on portfolio lift/escalator equipment. Responsibilities include completing Schindler safety inspections and closing any open non-conformities to current legislation or standards. The role also involves overseeing improvements in equipment condition to enhance the time between technical call-backs and reduce lift equipment downtime. Additional duties include minor repair work and lifecycle replacement of components. The successful candidate must adhere to all company safety and conduct procedures and provide coverage via an ’on call’ rota for out-of-hours calls, maintenance, and repairs. This full-time position has working hours from Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, with a slightly reduced schedule on Friday until 4:30 PM.
Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Carry out routine servicing of lift/escalator equipment, including minor repairs and routine replacement of components following approved procedures (PPE, PDA, Expert+ etc).
2. Rectify and reduce faults on lift/escalator equipment in the event of breakdowns and verify correct functioning.
3. Check the lift/escalator functions during maintenance, including speed, motor start/stop, weight, noise, temperature, and power supplies using approved tools and protective equipment.
4. Perform routine inspections and adjustments of lift/escalator equipment according to approved procedures, and complete service documentation.
5. Conduct advanced fault finding and diagnostics using various techniques, manuals, and test equipment, restoring equipment to service. Demonstrate competence in interpreting written or graphical information.
6. Carry out site surveys and attend relevant training to stay updated on technical knowledge and skills.
7. Work in accordance with the company's safety and environmental policies to ensure compliance with UK legal requirements and Schindler safety standards, setting a personal example of safe behavior.
8. Contribute to safety objectives by maintaining and monitoring safety systems and implementing necessary changes to safety management systems.
Candidate Requirements:
1. Experience in lift/escalator servicing, maintenance, or repairs is preferred.
2. Qualified to NVQ Level 3 minimum in lift/escalator maintenance or equivalent.
3. Willingness to work towards Schindler Certification Level 3 Red.
4. Advanced electrical and mechanical knowledge, including multi-brand equipment.
5. Strong problem-solving skills.
6. Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and operate efficiently.
7. Ability to work independently with a flexible approach.
8. Manual dexterity for repetitive lifting and operating various hand and power tools, as well as recording written information.
9. Proven fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
10. Good administrative skills and punctuality.
