About the Role
We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced academic, with a keen interest in healthcare leadership and management, to join our growing postgraduate community in the Peninsula Medical School. This is an exciting time for our school as we drive changes to our postgraduate provision, working collaboratively with students and colleagues in the health and care sector.
The complexity of practice requires excellent leadership and management to shape the culture, enable change, and positively influence healthcare experience and outcomes. Our master's programme aims to contribute to each student’s journey, enabling them to recognise their talents as healthcare leaders and managers, to have a positive impact in practice and fulfil their personal and professional ambitions.
You will join a team striving to re‑imagine, re‑design and deliver our Masters in Healthcare Management, Leadership and Innovation (HMLI). Employing your professional experience and academic expertise, you will teach and assess our students, contributing to their scholarly progression and their ability to impact professional practice. You will actively engage students through face‑to‑face and online learning, support them as a personal tutor, and have the opportunity to supervise dissertations.
As an academic with an established track record in higher education, you will take on various leadership roles, for example with admissions, recruitment, module leadership and, when required, deputise for the programme lead. The postgraduate community is growing, with HMLI students sharing learning opportunities with our other postgraduate programmes. This position affords the opportunity to engage in research and other scholarly activities.
You will have the support of a mentor and line manager and a workload respectful of the part‑time nature of this appointment. Primarily you will be based in Plymouth, at our North campus (John Bull building close to Derriford Hospital), relocating to the Drake Circus (main campus) where required. Working from home/off campus can also be accommodated, where appropriate.
Disability Confident
A Disability Confident employer will generally offer an interview to any applicant that declares they have a disability and meets the minimum criteria for the job as defined by the employer. In certain recruitment situations such as high‑volume, seasonal and high‑peak times, the employer may wish to limit the overall numbers of interviews offered to both disabled people and non‑disabled people. For more details please go to the university’s disability policy.
Research and Innovation
The Faculty of Health holds four Silver Athena Swan awards, which recognise our commitment to supporting gender equality within higher education. The University of Plymouth has a strong interdisciplinary research ethos supported by our two strategic Research Institutes – the Marine Institute and the Sustainable Earth Institute. As a member of our academic community, you will be expected to contribute to our recognised research strengths, collaborating and delivering impactful research contributions as part of a systems‑thinking approach to addressing today’s global challenges.

Following the closing date of the vacancy, you will be notified on the outcome of your application in due course. The anticipated interview date is Wednesday 28 January 2026.
