About Us

Clockwise Credit Union is a member-owned, not-for-profit financial cooperative providing ethical savings and affordable loans to our community.

We are in a period of growth and now cover Leicestershire, Warwickshire, Coventry and Nottinghamshire.

With a strong commitment to financial wellbeing and responsible lending, we're looking for a detail-oriented and proactive Compliance Officer to ensure we meet all legal, regulatory, and internal policy obligations.

Role Summary

As the Compliance Officer, you will be responsible for overseeing the credit union's compliance with regulatory requirements, industry standards, and internal policies—primarily focusing on the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), Prudential Regulation Authority (PRA), and anti-money laundering (AML) obligations.

You will need a curious mind and a hands-on approach to investigate and suggest mitigations to risk, both at an operational and strategic level.

You will work closely with the board, Audit and Risk Committee, senior management, and operational teams to promote a culture of compliance, ethical conduct, and risk awareness.

Key Responsibilities

· Regulatory Compliance

o Ensure ongoing compliance with FCA and PRA regulations, including updates to the Credit Union Rulebook.

o Maintain an up-to-date knowledge base of all applicable legislation (e.g., SYSC, CONC, SMCR).

o Prepare and submit regulatory reports and notifications to relevant authorities.

· Internal Policies & Procedures

o Develop, implement, and review compliance policies and procedures.

o Conduct regular policy audits and internal control reviews.

o Ensure staff understanding and adherence through training and guidance.

· Risk Management

o Maintain and update the risk register in coordination with senior management.

o Identify and assess emerging compliance risks and provide strategic mitigation plans.

o Own and test the Business Continuity Plan

· Anti-Money Laundering (AML) & Financial Crime

o Serve as the Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO) if designated.

o Monitor suspicious activity and ensure SARs are filed appropriately.

o Oversee AML, sanctions, and fraud prevention frameworks.

· Training & Awareness

o Deliver and coordinate training sessions on compliance topics, including data protection, AML, and treating customers fairly.

o Promote a strong culture of integrity, transparency, and ethical conduct.

· Reporting & Governance

o Provide regular compliance reports and insights to the board and risk and audit committee.

o Support the annual compliance monitoring plan and board risk reviews.

o Liaise with internal and external auditors and regulatory bodies as needed.

Qualifications and Experience

· Proven experience in a compliance role within financial services (preferably a credit union or building society).

· In-depth understanding of UK financial regulations, particularly those relevant to mutual financial institutions.

· Strong knowledge of FCA/PRA frameworks, SM&CR, and AML legislation.

· Excellent analytical and communication skills.

· Ability to manage multiple tasks while ensuring accuracy and attention to detail.

· Relevant qualifications (e.g., ICA Certificate/Diploma in Compliance, AML, or Risk Management) are highly desirable.

Desirable Attributes

· Integrity and discretion when handling sensitive information.

· Proactive and self-motivated approach to monitoring regulatory changes.

· Collaborative mindset with the ability to work across departments.

What We Offer

· Competitive salary based on experience.

· 25 days holiday and opportunity to buy holiday

· A collaborative, mission-driven work environment.

· Opportunities for ongoing professional development and training.
