Cloud Architect

The Organisation
NHS Scotland's unique provider of a national tele-health and tele-care service, responsible for delivering health advice and information by telephone and online services to the population of Scotland 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. NHS 24 is a patient-focused service providing triage, advice, guidance, referral and information on health and healthcare services.
We have six regional centres – Aberdeen, Dundee, South Queensferry, Hillington, Cardonald and Clydebank. NHS 24 supports hybrid working, and this post can be based within any NHS 24 regional centre. The successful candidate must be within commuting distance to a regional centre to attend if required and must also be able to travel to other regional centres when requested to attend meetings, undertake training and any other activities.
The Role
The post holder will strategically manage the cloud architecture of NHS 24's applications and systems, by working with internal NHS 24 technical experts and third-party suppliers to ensure that the application is deployed effectively and supports new and emerging business requirements. They will also act as the lead organisational contact for third party suppliers in relation to the cloud architecture of the NHS 24 infrastructure and application suite. The post holder will manage the delivery of changes to the cloud architecture within the NHS 24 application suite, exercising associated governance and controls.
Key Responsibilities
* Design and manage the cloud architecture for NHS 24 systems, working with third party suppliers as appropriate, and in conjunction with other partner organisations where necessary (e.g. Scottish Ambulance Service).
* Work with key suppliers and third parties to design and build cloud solutions that will support NHS 24’s key processes and activities, with a focus on effective design, network security and cost & performance optimization.
* Collaborate with key suppliers to define and implement cloud technology changes within the NHS 24 Application suite.
* Provide detailed reports to the Head of Clinical Systems Development, Chief Information Officer, Head of ICT Operations, other ICT Management Team members and the Executive Management Team about the Cloud architecture and technologies within NHS 24’s technology landscape.
* Document and maintain the Cloud technology architecture landscape, and update architecture landscapes when changes are made.
Qualifications and Experience
* Educated to degree level in an appropriate area and extensive experience in a related field.
* Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud), networking, security, automation, and understanding of infrastructure as code (IaC).
* Experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals, with a track record in the software development lifecycle.
* Ability to explain technical aspects of the system to non-technical professionals.
* Development/maintenance experience with Cloud technologies using different methodologies, including DevOps principles and practices, and CI/CD pipelines.
Benefits
NHS 24 offers a complete benefits package, with a permanent contract on Band 7, salary range £50,861 to £59,159 per annum (pro rata if applicable). Placement on the salary scale is dependent on confirmation of previous relevant NHS service.
