An exciting opportunity to join the Performance Information Team to extract, analyse and present data from the Trust’s information systems for performance, clinical and statistical purposes. You will also support the design and development of new reporting systems to meet user specifications.

The post-holder will monitor the Trust’s performance against key national targets, inform staff of unfavourable variances promptly, provide guidance on information content and interpretation, and be an expert in SQL development and associated reporting technologies.

PRIMARY DUTIES & AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
Reporting / Monitoring / Analysis
* Play a key role in the development and maintenance of Primary Target List (PTL) reporting systems.
* Lead in the development of information systems to support national service policy, responding to ISB notifications, DoH guidance, LAT or CCG requirements.
* Responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining a range of performance reporting systems (RTT, A&E, Theatres, Spells, FCEs, Outpatients, Cancer, Pharmacy, High Cost Drugs, Clinical Trials, etc.).
* Apply rigorous project management techniques to ensure customer requirements are met and benefits are measured.
* Analyse key performance variances and identify possible explanations.
* Provide daily operational information to Service Lines and promote correct usage via education and training.
* Produce Board‑level reporting with clear, accurate statistical analyses.
* Assist in training staff on management information use.
* Understand and apply Information Governance rules for personal confidential data.
Performance Management
* Use analytical/statistical techniques to identify service areas requiring managerial attention.
* Work with service management teams to recommend solutions aligned with national and local targets and policies.
* Explain complex performance issues to a wide range of audiences, including Service Line Managers, Trust Directors, and staff groups.
* Translate analytical techniques into comprehensible explanations for diverse audiences.
Commissioning / Payment by Results
* Assist in developing and maintaining reports that accurately describe the income due to the Trust under the Payment by Results regime.
* Help build systems for forecasting activity levels and justifying required activity.
* Monitor and review the Trust’s Service Level Agreement Monitoring reports and associated algorithms for consistency.
Information Provision
* Conduct complex analyses to aid understanding of clinical and performance issues by linking various systems.
* Lead maintenance of the Trust’s shared information drives (FBM and PTL) and provide training workshops.
* Analyse information input into IT systems, judge if action is required and investigate real outcome variation.
* Provide support for data extraction and analysis for Clinical Audit and Research & Development projects.
* Lead timely submission of statutory returns to external national bodies.
* Develop and implement regular data quality audits and advise on corrective actions.
* Review and automate processes to improve productivity and quality.
Person specification
KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE
* Comprehensive knowledge of NHS information datasets, data manuals and IT/reporting systems.
* Understanding of the Payment by Results regime.
* Ability to analyse complex patient flows through hospital services.
* Substantial NHS information analysis experience.
* Expert knowledge of Hospital Patient Administrative Systems.
* Advanced user of the MS Office Suite.
* Advanced user of SQL and related technologies.
* Proficient in SSRS or equivalent reporting tool.
* Understanding of clinical terminology.
* Demonstrable NHS project management experience, including requirements lifecycle.
* Staff supervisory skills.
* Statistical analysis experience.
* Knowledge of NHS policies and targets.
* Knowledge of reporting technologies (e.g., QlikView, Tableau).
* EPIC certification in Cogito, Caboodle Data Model & Clarity Data Model.
QUALIFICATIONS
* Degree level education or equivalent NHS information analysis experience.
* Advanced ECDL or equivalent.
* Formal SQL certification or demonstrable T‑SQL experience.
* Formal qualifications in numerical/statistical/data management (e.g., A‑level, Graduate).
* MSSQL Certification.
