The Role

As Commercial Director, you will sit on the regional construction board and take collective responsibility for delivering both regional business objectives and national Construction Group standards. You will lead and influence commercial performance across the region, ensuring early engagement with projects, appropriate resourcing, and robust commercial controls from work winning through to delivery and completion.

Key Accountabilities

* Lead the regional commercial contribution to Zero Harm and exemplary health, safety, wellbeing and environmental performance
* Act as a member of the regional construction board, contributing to strategic and operational decision‑making
* Work with the Regional Managing Director to shape and deliver the regional business plan
* Own the identification and management of short, medium and long‑term commercial risks, ensuring effective mitigation strategies are in place
* Provide functional leadership to regional commercial teams, ensuring effective people, capability and succession planning
* Oversee collaboration between Commercial and Pre‑construction teams to support effective work‑winning and bid strategies
* Ensure commercial, procurement, financial and legal requirements are appropriately resourced and delivered across projects
* Monitor performance across multiple projects, adjusting priorities and resources where required
* Intervene to resolve commercial or contractual issues, including disputes, to achieve satisfactory regional outcomes
* Act as custodian of Wates governance processes, ensuring compliance with group policies and standards
* Contribute at a national level to the ongoing development and modernisation of commercial policies and practices

About You

* Significant experience operating at a strategic commercial level within construction
* Strong background in contract negotiation, risk management and bid leadership
* Sound understanding of procurement policies and commercial governance
* Educated to degree level in a commercial or related discipline, or equivalent experience
* Ideally RICS qualified (or similar)
* Able to influence and communicate effectively at senior levels, internally and externally
* Resilient, commercially astute, and confident managing complexity and competing priorities

This role offers the opportunity to shape regional commercial performance while contributing to the wider Construction Group's long‑term strategy and success.
