Job Summary

Are you looking for a change that is challenging and rewarding? Maritime Capability Trials and Assessment (MCTA) is Navy Command’s independent equipment capability assurance organisation. We are a diverse fast-paced team who face a constantly evolving vista of work. Led by a Royal Navy Captain, supported by a mixture of Military and Civil Servants, MCTA provides an assortment of maritime services to deliver highly effective capability assurance to the maritime domain of the MoD.

The Business Support Assistant is an important role within the lively Business Support Group of MCTA. We are located in Victory Building within Portsmouth Naval Base which offers excellent facilities including easy access to travel networks, onsite car parking, an outlook over the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard and is within walking distance to GunWharf Quays and other local attractions. HM Naval Base Portsmouth is an operational support and maintenance base providing a home base for ships and their staff.

We are looking for a hard-working and enthusiastic individual to join our team in providing excellent customer service.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.

Job Description

This is a customer focused role where building and maintaining good working relationships and collaborating with personnel at all levels both internally and externally is crucial.

The post holder will provide high quality administrative support for the Business Support and Travel cells. They will provide efficient admin support and ensure the cost-effective provision of travel services, meeting or exceeding customer expectations and requirements. This busy role requires attention to detail and good digital literacy using various IT solutions including but not limited to Office 365, Microsoft Excel Spreadsheets and travel booking tools.

To succeed in this role you should enjoy working as part of a team and be confident engaging with people.

The Business Support team are based in Victory Building within Portsmouth Naval Base where regular office attendance is required to deliver the outputs of this role.

The role requires the holder to deal daily with personnel both internal and external to the department therefore needs to possess good verbal and written communication skills. We work in high pace close-knit teams, hence key personnel skills are drive, initiative and adaptability to support and sustain the daily running of the department. Person specification

Our ideal applicant will have good interpersonal skills with the ability to prioritise and reassess their workload as tasks are received; a desire to deliver an excellent level of customer service and administrative support.

Candidates must have practical experience of using MS Outlook, MS Excel, MS Word and SharePoint and have good written and verbal communication.

It is desirable that the applicant holds a full UK manual Driving licence and is willing to drive MOD provided vehicles to support the Motor Transport Officer with the movement of vehicles in the Portsmouth area for maintenance, repairs and fuelling purposes.

An apprenticeship is a combined package of work and training. Most of the training will be ‘on-the-job’, with the remaining ‘off-the-job’ training often delivered by a training provider. This means minimal disruption and maximum impact.

Professional qualifications can be achieved through an apprenticeship and range from Level 2 (equivalent to 5 GCSEs), Level 3 (equivalent to 2 A Levels), and Levels 4 -7, which can give you a foundation degree, a full bachelor’s degree, or a master’s degree. Apprenticeships normally last between 12 months - 3 years, depending on the level of the apprenticeship.

Anyone can undertake an Apprenticeship and everyone, regardless of age, can benefit from developing their skills in an accredited way. Successful candidates can discuss their development options with their manager when in post.

The post does not offer relocation expenses.
