Overview
Lead Clinical Scientist to provide MRSE support for the Trust and support external Trusts under service level agreements. The radiation protection department provides specialist imaging scientific advice and technical support to radiology and radiotherapy, supports optimisation of imaging equipment, and participates in new imaging network activity. Applicants with experience of ultrasound physics are encouraged to apply.
The department is part of the wider radiation services team including nuclear medicine and radiotherapy physics at Mount Vernon Cancer Centre.

Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will be a HCPC registered Clinical Scientist, qualified to act as an MRSE and familiar with clinical imaging in a radiology department setting. You will lead on MRI safety and scientific support to several hospitals, working closely with the head of radiation protection as part of the leadership team delivering services to a number of Trusts. You will work with local service leads to ensure organisations deliver statutory obligations with respect to the safe use of MRI. The post holder will also provide support, line manage clinical scientists and technologists, contribute to staff development and supervise trainees undertaking the STP programme or equivalent.

Qualifications / Training
* Essential: Honours degree in a relevant subject (physics or engineering)
* Essential: Postgraduate qualification in a relevant branch of physics or medical physics to MSc level
* Essential: HCPC registration as a Clinical Scientist
* Essential: Relevant experience as a clinical scientist
* Essential: Certificate of competence to practice as a MR Safety Expert
* Desirable: Experience in ultrasound imaging
Previous Experience
* Essential: Highly specialised training and practical experience in MR imaging and safety; experience with QA testing of technical equipment
* Essential: Ability to apply legislation and guidelines and communicate their application to health professionals including senior management
* Essential: Experience of working in teams, auditing, and clinical service provision
Skills
* Good communicator of highly complex information to patients and staff
* Ability to analyse and interpret complex data and make judgements
* Ability to interpret technical situations and implement appropriate measures
* High level manual dexterity and accuracy for use of sophisticated equipment
* Proficiency with electronic documents, spreadsheets and Clinical Applications software
* Ability to teach, train and supervise staff across MR safety
* Ability to manage priorities and adapt to changing requirements
* Physical requirements: occasional moderate effort; prolonged concentration; potential exposure to distressing or unpleasant conditions
Knowledge
* Advanced MRI knowledge (clinical, technical and scientific)
* Understanding of relevant legislation, standards and guidelines
* Specialist knowledge of MRI equipment safety and implanted devices
