What you will be doing
The Business Development Manager will identify, develop, and secure new business opportunities within the public, private, and social housing construction markets. This role requires a strong understanding of the construction industry, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and a proven track record in business development.
Responsibilities
* Market Research & Analysis: Conduct thorough market research to identify potential clients, projects, and market trends. Analyse competitor activities and develop strategies to differentiate Galliford Try’s offering.
* Lead Generation: Proactively identify and generate new leads through networking, industry events, online platforms and referrals.
* Client Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with key decision-makers at potential and existing clients, including public sector, developers and consultants.
* Proposal Development: Lead the development of compelling proposals and presentations that articulate Galliford Try's value proposition and address client needs, collaborating with pre-construction and operational teams.
* Negotiation & Closing: Negotiate and close deals, ensuring profitability and alignment with company objectives and values.
* Sales Pipeline Management: Manage the opportunity pipeline, track progress, and provide regular updates to the senior leadership team. Utilise and manage CRM software effectively.
* Networking & Industry Engagement: Participate in industry events, conferences, and related activities to build relationships and promote Galliford Try's capability and brand.
* Collaboration: Work with internal teams, including pre-construction, internal framework sector leads, operations and commercial teams to ensure seamless project execution and client satisfaction.
* Reporting & Analysis: Prepare regular reports on business development activities, lead generation, proposal submissions and win rates. Analyse data to identify areas for improvement and optimise strategies.
About You
* Proven track record of success in business development within the construction industry, ideally with tier 1 main contractor experience.
* Strong understanding of the construction process, including design, estimating, and project management.
* Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants and internal teams.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Positive, enthusiastic, and personable demeanor.
* Ability to work to deadlines and with attention to detail to ensure quality.
* Self-motivated, results-oriented, and able to work independently.
* Strong negotiation and closing skills.
* Ability to travel as required.
