Why this job matters
Database Operations is part of Cloud Services, which also runs BT’s internal IT and some large customer facing Databases. We run, manage & operate a large estate of various release levels.
The Professional role provides operations support to our colleagues and partners within the business.
* Knowledge of SQL server up to and including SQL 2022
* SQL maintenance - service packs and Cumulative Update patching
* SQL installation - Standalone, Database Mirroring, Always On, Transparent Data Encryption
* SQL Failover management and SQL instance and database Backup and recovery
* Problem solving, performance and root cause analysis
What you’ll be doing
* Must be willing to do on-call and support out of hours when appropriate
* Ensure operational procedures are maintained and followed as appropriate.
* Conducts technical peer reviews within the organisation or with suppliers to ensure outputs align to quality standards and customer requirements.
* Identifies and solves routine problems with components designed, performs deep dive data analysis, potentially introducing new components or features to resolve issues.
* Supports the design and development of discreet solutions in line with wider architecture and security standards, demonstrating basic understanding of how solution impacts the wider Technology roadmap.
* Designs and develops components of smaller and /or less complex projects in partnership with team, ensuring and documenting the quality of delivery.
* Contributes technical and analytical knowledge where needed to support managers, principals or technical experts to resolve issues during projects.
What you'll bring
Mandatory
* Basic Windows Server Administration
* SQL engine and SSMS experience
* Evidence of solving Technical Problems
* Basic Powershell programming.
* Database Backup and restore.
* Knowledge of HA and Disaster Recovery
* Security Compliance
* Encryption (TDE and/or column level encryption)
* The ability to work using change and problem management processes.
Nice to have but not essential:
* Fundamental understanding of Networking and Firewalls
* TSQL development and stored procedures and functions, triggers and cursors
* Webserver/IIS/LUCEE experience
* Performance tuning and optimisation
* Project Management skills.
