Overview of the Role
To support the ethos of the school and work supportively with the classroom teacher in their responsibility for the development and education process by providing care and supervision skills to children, including those who have special physical, emotional and educational needs, utilising a good standard of practical knowledge and skills.
Job Responsibilities
1. Under the direction and control of the classroom teacher or Lead Teaching Assistant, the successful candidate will:
2. Ensure the wellbeing and safety of individual pupils at all times, following the school’s safeguarding policies and procedures.
3. Support the classroom teacher and Lead Teaching Assistant in delivering and organising learning for pupils, including in specialised areas such as outdoor learning, swimming and PE.
4. Support pupils in their learning and care needs while also encouraging independence and general development.
5. Demonstrate an understanding of the curriculum and assessment framework (short and longer term) for individual pupils.
6. Take collective responsibility for identifying and managing risks and ensuring pupils are cared for both in terms of wellbeing and physical needs, following individual plans and strategies, including use of CPOMS.
7. Support the creation and organisation of learning resources and materials, including individualised resources.
8. Assess and record pupils’ work and progress in liaison with the class teacher and Lead Teaching Assistant.
9. Use ICT to support children’s learning.
10. Support communication using a total communication approach.
11. Assist with the general care and welfare of children, including:
12. Personal care routines such as toileting, dressing, undressing and feeding
13. Changing and appropriate disposal of soiled clothing
14. Supporting children with injuries and, where qualified, administering basic first aid
15. Monitoring children’s general health and welfare in line with safeguarding policies
16. Take an active interest in professional development and seek to develop knowledge and skills in all required areas.
General Duties
17. Maintain personal and professional development to meet the changing demands of the role, participating in appropriate training activities.
18. Undertake any other duties, training and/or hours of work reasonably required and consistent with the level of responsibility of the post.
19. Undertake health and safety duties in line with the School’s Health and Safety Policy.
