To support the teaching of ESOL at the college, you will work with the Curriculum Development Manager to plan, create, deliver, and assess a range of new and established ESOL courses from pre-entry to Level 2. You will support learners during their courses, help develop their confidence, ensure assessment records are up-to-date, meet targets, and provide meaningful feedback.
Courses are delivered during the day and in the evening at various locations in and around the borough, with occasional weekend sessions by arrangement. You will actively market Havering Adult College's specialist provision through attending events, assisting with marketing materials, and maintaining a presence at key locations to promote learning opportunities.
The successful candidate will have an understanding of Equality and Diversity and be aware of the requirements under Safeguarding of Children & Vulnerable Adults regulations. You will join a professional team, supported by experienced management, and may provide mentoring to sessional staff to contribute to continuous improvement.
About You
The ideal candidate should possess the following essential criteria:
* Extensive experience of teaching ESOL
* Proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
* Ability to work within deadlines
* Experience of mentoring
* Hold a full UK driving licence
* A Level 4 Teaching Qualification for post-compulsory settings (e.g., CTLLS or CET)
* GCSE Grade 9-5 English and maths qualifications (or equivalent)
* Willingness to gain a Teaching Qualification and Assessor Certificate if not already held, with details discussed at interview
Desirable criteria include:
* Assessor Certificate (Level 3)
* Experience with diverse learner groups
* Experience in internal quality assurance
* Knowledge of the local area and community
You must be able to work independently, research, produce, and utilize teaching resources, including e-learning, to maintain high standards across different environments. A desire to develop and implement innovative teaching methods to motivate learners is essential. Supporting learners' English and maths skills aligns with national priorities.
