Job Description:
Job Purpose
To contribute to the growing research in Geospatial Data Science at the College of Science and Engineering, working with Professor Ana Basiri and the Geospatial Data Science Group at the University of Glasgow. The successful candidate will develop cutting-edge geospatial AI tools, deliver high-impact research, and contribute to team development through research outputs, proposals, supervision, and presentations.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. Develop innovative GeoAI solutions combining geospatial data with APIs like GPT, Codex, etc., for data tasks and AI-driven applications.
2. Study and develop applications using Large Language Models through fine-tuning and integration.
3. Apply techniques such as prompt engineering, data ingestion, and transformation.
4. Collaborate with the Geospatial Data Science team and external partners across industry, government, and third sectors.
5. Enhance research profile through publications, societal impact, and research indicators.
6. Present work at conferences, seminars, and workshops.
7. Support FAIR principles by making data and code repositories accessible and reproducible.
8. Pursue personal and professional development.
9. Perform additional duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience
Essential:
* PhD or equivalent in relevant discipline.
* Strong knowledge of AI foundations, prompt engineering, data transformation, and model fine-tuning.
* Deep understanding of APIs like OpenAI's offerings for geospatial data tasks.
Skills:
* Research creativity and collaboration.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Project and time management skills.
* Self-motivation and problem-solving abilities.
* Innovative solution design for geospatial challenges using AI.
Experience:
* Postdoctoral or equivalent experience.
* Knowledge of multimodal machine learning techniques.
* Experience with machine learning frameworks and libraries.
* Proven track record of research outputs.
* Ability to stay updated with advancements in geospatial AI.
Desirable:
* Experience with international academic collaborations.
* Experience in funding applications.
* Mentoring less experienced team members.
