* Governance-level understanding of finance; ability to read accounts, assess risk, and ask the right questions.
* Ability to explain financial information clearly to fellow Board members; integrity, impartiality, and sound judgment.
* Willingness to liaise with the Executive Director and, if required, accountants or auditors.
* Understanding that all CIC directors share collective financial responsibility.
* Desirable: Previous experience as a Treasurer; accountancy or finance qualification; experience with CIC or charity financial reporting (Companies House, CIC Regulator, HMRC); knowledge of fundraising, reserves policies, or financial sustainability in non-profits.
* Personal qualities: Commitment to ESAS’s mission and values, including migrant justice, race equality, and anti-racism; professionalism and integrity; willingness to act as a “critical friend”; respect for inclusivity, sustainability, and community wellbeing.
