Role

The Senior Family Engagement Worker is an integral part of this new service and will be responsible for assisting women prisoners and their families to maintain relationships or re-establish contact with family.

The Senior Family Engagement Worker will actively lead, plan, consult and advise on service and program development, and the implementation and delivery of family engagement measures, and will support the implementation of a new Family Therapy Service. The role will proactively identify emerging needs and issues of incarcerated mothers to ensure responsivity to operational service demands as well as actively contribute to and inform ongoing service and quality improvement to ensure best practice is maintained. The Senior Family Engagement Worker at Tarrengower Prison will lead and drive strategic development, planning and implementation for a consolidated Family Engagement Service across the Women's Prison System, including how this service complements existing offender management frameworks and case planning.

Additionally, the role will include building relationships with other Government departments, such as the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Child Protection, to develop strategies that assist women's transition to the family unit and the community in general.


Some of your duties will include :

* Lead the design and implementation of the newly developed Family Engagement Service, including managing referrals, throughcare and information sharing requirements.
* Provide support to women and their families based on their identified needs, including referrals to community-based services upon release.
* Actively collaborate with prison-based staff, such as Assessment and Transition Coordinators, to ensure women and their families receive an integrated service while in custody and, where, possible, once they return to the community.

About you


To be successful in this role, you will have :

* Applicants who have an understanding or experience of working with women with complex needs and applying a trauma informed approach in their work will be highly regarded.
* Demonstrated knowledge of complexities associated with women in custody, including transition and reintegration issues and needs of women prisoners.
* Extensive specialist expertise working with women and their families.
