About Watford Schools Trust
Founded in 1992, Watford Schools Trust is an interdenominational Christian charity working with over 50 schools in the Watford area. Our mission is to give every school child a clear understanding of the Christian faith through engaging lessons, assemblies, and our unique 'ExploRE' prayer space projects. We support teachers by delivering high-quality resources that complement the RE syllabus and provide a vital link between local churches and the school community.
The Role
We are seeking a prayerful, strategic, and collaborative leader to serve as Chair of Trustees. The Chair provides leadership to the Board of Trustees, ensuring that we fulfill our charitable mission, maintain sound governance, and provide effective support to our staff team. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone with a heart for children's ministry and education to help shape the future of a well-established local charity.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Strategy: Lead the Board of Trustees in setting the strategic direction of the Trust and ensuring all activities align with our Christian ethos and charitable objectives.
Governance: Ensure the Trust complies with its governing document, charity law, and safeguarding requirements.
People Leadership: Act as a "critical friend" and line manager to our Workers, providing support and oversight of their work in schools.
Meetings: Plan and chair quarterly Trustee meetings, ensuring they are productive, inclusive, and focused on decision-making.
Ambassadorship: Represent the Trust at external events and maintain positive relationships with partner churches, schools, and donors.
Personal Qualities & Experience
Faith: A committed Christian with a passion for sharing the Gospel with the next generation.
Leadership: Experience in chairing meetings or leading teams (professional or voluntary).
Governance: An understanding of the roles and responsibilities of charity trustees (or a willingness to learn).
Communication: Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to listen, build consensus, and represent the Trust clearly.
Local Heart: A resident of or connection to the Watford area is highly desirable.
