Role Overview
Provide professional administrative support on a 24/7 shift basis within the Emergency Department, coordinating all stages of a patient’s journey from first attendance to discharge.
Responsibilities
* Facilitate patient flow within the department and proactively support the work of multi-disciplinary teams (MDTs) to achieve best outcomes.
* Inform and communicate assessment updates and discharge plans to all stakeholders.
* Identify and resolve barriers to discharge or flow, escalating issues in line with the Emergency Department Surge Plan.
* Support the Nurse in Charge (NIC) independently, working with frequent interruptions in a dynamic environment.
* Ensure compliance with 4‑hour and 12‑hour ECA standards and manage escalation procedures.
* Maintain real‑time updates to clinical systems and produce an hourly shift report documenting performance, alerts, breaches, and staffing information.
* Participate in two‑hourly board rounds and the initial 07:45 team huddle with NICs, site coordinators, consultants, and on‑call managers to review demand and plan for increases.
Qualifications & Requirements
* Strong organizational and communication skills.
* Experience coordinating patient flow or a similar administrative role in a fast‑paced clinical setting.
* Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and manage frequent interruptions.
* Knowledge of NHS England ECA standards and escalation procedures.
